At present, Danny and Michael Philippou, the directors behind the chilling horror film “Bring Her Back,” are currently touring to promote their latest terrifying offering. With horror enthusiasts like me eagerly waiting to see what they’ll produce next, there’s been a lot of buzz surrounding these talented filmmakers. Many fans, including myself, are looking forward to the sequel for their successful debut film “Talk to Me,” which was officially confirmed in August 2023. However, it’s important to note that despite this confirmation, we have to be patient as the sequel is still some time away.
Let’s start by discussing the less favorable part of the situation, but remember it’s still mostly good news in the grand scheme of things. Now, let’s explore where the “Talk to Me 2” narrative might be headed next. Shall we light a candle…?
Why Talk To Me 2 Isn’t Happening Yet
It won’t shock anyone to discover that, following their successful creation of a moderately priced horror film that received praise from critics and viewers worldwide, the Philippou brothers gained significant attention in the horror industry. Yet, they weren’t content to sit idle and pursued other projects as well.
Currently, the siblings are diligently creating a documentary for A24 centered around deathmatch wrestling, which seems as gruesome as any future films slated for 2025. Interestingly, it appears that they might be working on a third original project before considering sequels. In an interview with Bloody Disgusting about upcoming plans, the Philippous revealed that another genre production is underway, stating:
*The siblings are intensely engaged in producing a documentary for A24 centered around deathmatch wrestling, which appears as brutal as any films scheduled for 2025. However, it seems they may be working on a third original project before considering sequels.*
*Speaking with Bloody Disgusting about the near future, the Philippous confirmed another original genre production is in development, saying:*
Right now, I’m immersed in drafting a chilling new horror film that I absolutely love. It seems monumental, if you ask me. After that, perhaps we can discuss “Sequel to Our Conversation 2”.
To put it simply, I’m quite excited about the potential of seeing more from the storyline of “Talk to Me”, but I can’t deny that I’m also intrigued by the possibility of the brothers introducing fresh concepts in their next project. It would certainly be nice if they shared a bit more about this major new concept, as it would make the wait easier. For now, though, I find myself contemplating all the nervous anticipation I’ll experience while watching that deathmatch documentary.
Talk To Me 2 Could Go In Two Different Directions
It appears that the details for “Talk to Me 2” are still under development, with fresh concepts arising as time passes. In fact, there seems to be no single definitive storyline for the sequel yet. The Philippou brothers have shared that they are continually refining the plot.
We’ve developed two distinct scripts for Talk to Me 2, each featuring unique sets of characters and settings. Both versions excite me equally. One script includes a scene that I believe could rank among the finest moments I’ll capture on film.
Could we speculate that the upcoming scene might surpass the exuberant dog-kissing moment from “Talk to Me,” perhaps featuring a different animal instead? However, it’s more likely that it won’t.
In essence, is it possible that one of those scripts will be used for the second movie, while the other could potentially evolve into “Talk to Me 3” (or more fittingly, “Talk to M3”)? Alternatively, could the unused script be discarded entirely? Regardless, having a surplus of ideas over none is always preferable, especially when the concepts are as unsettling as what these filmmakers present.
Despite the ongoing discussions about the sequel, I can’t help but ponder if we might see the previously mentioned Duckett prequel first. This prequel was said to be created using mobile devices and social media by the Philippou brothers. Could it be released ahead of the official sequel? I’m keeping my fingers tightly crossed in hope.
In the meantime, Bring Her Back is hitting theaters everywhere on May 30.
