Talking Point: What Are Your PS5 Predictions for Summer Game Fest 2025?

Summer Game Fest is fast approaching once more, effectively taking over where E3 (rest in peace) left off by hosting a grand, eye-catching exhibition and a wealth of information about forthcoming video games. It’s likely that Geoff Keighley has been practicing tirelessly for the year’s most significant gaming event, preparing to share with us some fresh announcements and updates on intriguing upcoming game titles.

Every year, we strive to make educated guesses and forecasts about what’s in store, and here we are again, posing the question – what can we expect at SGF this time around? Similar to last year, the Push Square team has convened, and as usual, we’re each sharing a plausible prediction and an optimistic one – something that might actually happen, and something that’s more of a wishful thinking but wouldn’t it be fantastic if it did.

After reviewing our forecasts, we’re eager to know your thoughts! Share with us your projections for SGF 2025. Feel free to express them in the comment section beneath this post.

Personal Outlook: Just like last year, I’m keeping my fingers crossed for the official release of Arc Raiders. The recent tech test from Embark Studios has been nothing short of amazing, fueling my anticipation even more. I don’t think a sudden, surprise release (shadow drop) is likely this time around since Arc Raiders will be a paid game. However, I can envision an announcement for the release date and maybe even an open beta on PS5, keeping the excitement level high!

As a gamer, I’m just dreaming here, but it would be fantastic to hear about an AAA title for PSVR2, preferably a first-party experience akin to Horizon Call of the Mountain. I don’t necessarily need a complete game, just something that captures the essence and immersion, like Batman Arkham VR did in the Gotham City setting, but set within the worlds of The Last of Us or even the vibrant universe of Ratchet and Clank.

Forecast: The game titled “Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra,” featuring characters like Black Panther, Captain America, and two fresh faces, has been postponed to early 2026. We haven’t seen much of this Marvel project since its name and story trailer were first revealed over a year ago. The Summer Game Fest seems like the ideal platform for this game, given that none of the three major gaming platforms seem particularly excited about it, and they probably won’t be showcasing it during their own live streams. Thus, we can expect Geoff Keighley to unveil a fresh Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra trailer at Summer Game Fest, accompanied by a clearer release date. I predict the game will come out in March 2026.

Prediction: It’s speculated that Bloober Team could unveil their remake of Silent Hill 3. While I believe it might be a bit premature for this announcement, given Konami’s history of confirming Silent Hill projects well ahead of time, anything is possible. Given the high likelihood that Bloober Team is working on a remake of Silent Hill 3, I am quite confident that this prediction will materialize eventually. Ideally, it would be revealed during Summer Game Fest. In addition to the remake, there’s hope for a trailer announcing downloadable content (DLC) for Silent Hill 2, focusing on the expansion “Born from a Wish: Maria’s Story”. However, I consider these kinds of announcements as optimistic expectations rather than concrete realities, given that Geoff Keighley’s summer showcase is usually not very grand in scale.

Forecast: RGG Studio might unveil an exciting new project at Geoff’s event. It could be another peek at Project Century, their latest game that was presented at The Game Awards last year, or the announcement of a fresh Like a Dragon title. However, I lean more towards the possibility of the long-whispered Yakuza 3 remake being unveiled, possibly with a release date scheduled for later in the year.

Dream Scenario: The long-awaited announcement of Persona 6 has finally occurred. Although it might just be wishful thinking, I can’t help but feel the anticipation for the next installment in the mainline Persona series. Regrettably, it seems unlikely to materialize as we may first encounter a remake of Persona 4 before any confirmation about the new game — yet, that’s what dreams are for, isn’t it?

As a gamer, I can’t help but feel a sense of anticipation that Starfield might grace the PS5 this year. Given Microsoft’s pattern of bringing games from their stable onto Sony’s platform, it seems plausible that Starfield, their highly-anticipated space opera, could be next in line for a port. If history is any indication, I wouldn’t be surprised if they announce a major expansion pack along with the release.

It’s conceivable that Microsoft might wait until their Xbox Games Showcase later this week to reveal Starfield, but considering their vast array of studios, I speculate they may choose to kick off Summer Games Fest with an exciting announcement first.

Wish: Geoff Keighley has a fondness for gacha games as they help fund productions allowing him to interact with Hideo Kojima directly. In light of this, I am eagerly anticipating the complete unveiling of HoYoverse’s Pokémon-inspired game titled Honkai Nexus Anima. Although we have had a sneak peek earlier in the year, there is still much we don’t know about it. Could this be an adventure focusing on creature battles? Will it finally tap into the potential that Game Freak appears reluctant to exploit with their substantial funds?

Forecast: There’s not much buzz about the upcoming Ace Combat game that I find intriguing. Although it’s been under development for quite some time, it seems like a good moment to reveal what they’ve been working on. Following the success of Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown, I can’t wait to see what the next installment will bring. This time around, both Project ACES and ILCA are handling development, so let’s hope their collaboration leads to another exceptional game in the flight action series.

Dream: To clarify, my dream this year is still the same as last – a fantastic reboot of Burnout. However, for variety, let me discuss another intriguing prospect: a peek at Media Molecule’s upcoming project. I acknowledge that it might be premature to talk about it now, but Media Molecule is one of my favorite studios, and I am eagerly awaiting news about their new creation. Given the reception of Dreams, I anticipate they will take a more conservative approach with their next game. What fascinates me is the possibility that their new project could venture into uncharted territories, given their history in platformers, but with Astro Bot filling that niche. I’m eager to learn what they are developing.
