By now, we’ve reached the midpoint of the year 2025, which signifies that it’s high time to begin contemplating a candidate for the unofficial Game of the Year (so far)!
During the summer season, things usually become more tranquil. It’s always beneficial to pause and reflect on the games that have resonated with us so far. As time passes, some of these games may slip from our memory.
Here I am, excitedly inviting you all to join me and my fellow enthusiasts from the Push Square editorial team as we reveal our top picks for 2025! Feel free to cast your vote and share your thoughts in our poll and comment section below. Let’s celebrate the amazing games that have captivated us so far this year!

Without a doubt, among the games I’ve played in 2025, Split Fiction stands out as my Game of the Year. While It Takes Two left me feeling ambivalent due to its pacing challenges, Split Fiction addresses nearly all those issues and introduces even more improvements. The game offers a remarkable diversity in gameplay mechanics, driven by an innovative concept that makes it enjoyable from beginning to end.

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 has been an extraordinary and unanticipated delight in my gaming media experience thus far. I thought the RPG would be decent, but it surpassed all expectations. Its daring narrative, innovative parry-based combat, and immersive environment made me cherish each moment of my quest to find the Paintress and beyond. The game’s unique French character combined with a compelling cast of characters and superb soundtrack are just the icing on the cake.
For the next six months, we’re looking forward to more amazing games, but as of now, none can beat the excellence of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33.

This year, no game has left me completely awestruck; however, if you insist on a favorite at this moment, it would be Monster Hunter World. I keep finding myself returning to Capcom’s action RPG ever since its debut, and the combat system never fails to hold my interest.
Without a doubt, there are areas that could be better in Wilds; however, with Title Update 2 arriving shortly and further enhancements on the horizon throughout 2025, I am optimistic that this game may very well emerge as my Game of the Year by year’s end.

For those who frequently read my posts, you might have noticed that I’ve been quite engrossed in an assortment of gacha games on the PlayStation 5, leaving less time to explore fresh releases. With a touch of Stockholm syndrome and no trace of irony, I’m choosing this article to highlight Wuthering Waves – another game that could be considered a significant time commitment, much like its inspiration Genshin Impact. However, it corrects all the mistakes made by HoYoverse.
This animated open-world landscape might surprise you with its abundant use of specific names, but its lively scenery pulses with energy, brimming as it does with characters – and there’s an ample collection of charming females (now in swimsuits, to boot) that I approve of.

From the moment I anticipated that whatever Hazelight Studio would create following “It Takes Two” would be extraordinary, my expectations were surpassed by the captivating “Split Fiction”. Continuing the dynamic platforming and creative gameplay from its predecessor, this cooperative adventure pushes the boundaries with an unprecedented level of shine, showcasing a staggering variety of puzzles and mechanics. From start to finish, I was hooked, primarily due to the unending flow of innovative concepts.
In terms of sheer fun factor, I’m not sure any other 2025 game will top it for me.
We are wrapping up for now, but we’d love to hear from you! In the past six months, which PS5 games have particularly impressed you? Cast your vote in our poll and share your thoughts in the comment section below.
