Tango Gameworks and Hi-Fi Rush IP Acquired by Krafton

Tango Gameworks and Hi-Fi Rush IP Acquired by Krafton

As a longtime fan of Tango Gameworks, this news has brought me immense joy! I vividly remember the electrifying rhythm action gameplay and captivating storylines that Tango Gameworks delivered, especially with the release of Hi-Fi Rush. The closure of the studio was truly heartbreaking, but it seems fate had other plans.

Earlier this year, it was sadly announced that Tango Gameworks, a Japanese studio, was closed down by its parent company Microsoft, despite their recent hit game, Hi-Fi Rush, receiving both critical and commercial acclaim. However, it appears the collective hopes of many have been answered, as the studio and its intellectual property are now being brought back to life.

It’s been revealed that Korean game publisher Krafton (known for PUBG and The Callisto Protocol) has broadened its collection by purchasing Tango Gameworks from Microsoft. The team and their colleagues will reportedly return to active duty with the new ownership.

Krafton has taken over the intellectual property (IP) for “Hi-Fi Rush”. Although Microsoft will retain ownership of other Tango Games IPs like “The Evil Within” and “Ghostwire: Tokyo”, access to all Tango Gameworks titles on Game Pass won’t change. However, Krafton plans to broaden the horizons of the “Hi-Fi Rush” IP.

According to Krafton’s announcement, they plan to join forces with Xbox and ZeniMax in a strategic partnership. This collaboration is aimed at facilitating a seamless transition and preserving consistency at Tango Gameworks. The gifted Tango Gameworks team will be enabled to carry on working on the Hi-Fi Rush intellectual property, as well as explore new ventures. Krafton intends to back the Tango Gameworks team in their pursuit of continued innovation and delivering captivating, fresh experiences for enthusiasts.

Just prior to Tango Gameworks being shut down by Microsoft, the action rhythm game “Hi-Fi Rush” was launched for PlayStation 5. Earlier leaks had hinted that this game might also come out for the Nintendo Switch (or possibly its future version). A PEGI rating in April seemed to support this prediction as well. We’ll have to wait and see if Krafton will carry out those supposed plans.

Hi-Fi Rush is currently available on Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC.
