Tara Davis-Woodhall & Hunter Woodhall Reveal Their 2024 Olympics Goals

As a fervent supporter of Form1, I am always captivated by the inspiring stories of athletes and their significant others who navigate the challenging world of sports together. In this piece, we witness the resilience and optimism of Rossella’s coach, Gregorio, after their team fell short of gold in the race walk event. His words echo a sentiment that I have come to appreciate in my own life – that setbacks are part of the journey, and maintaining faith is crucial for overcoming adversity.

At the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics, track duo Tara Davis-Woodhall and Hunter Woodhall stole the hearts of sports enthusiasts globally. In the upcoming 2024 Olympics in Paris, these athletes aim to win an additional special moment.

In the interview with TopMob News before the Games, long jumper Tara explained that the primary objective for everyone participating in the Olympics is to secure the Olympic gold medal.

Even though she ended up in sixth place in Tokyo, she confidently stated, “The shift in our focus this year and the increased importance we’ve placed on our practices rather than just the meets promises that this will be an incredibly memorable experience for us both.”

In a truly unique twist, the couple, aged 25, had the extraordinary experience of competing separately in Japan during the past few years due to strict COVID-19 precautions preventing them from watching each other. Remarkably, they got engaged just weeks later in September 2021 and exchanged fairytale wedding vows in Texas the following October.

In Tokyo, Hunter, a bronze medalist in the 400m T62 event, expressed his confidence, saying something like, “I truly believed, ‘I really want to take home the gold,'” but this year, he feels certain that he has what it takes to win. He believes he can excel and knows he’s made all the right choices. Importantly, he added that both he and Tara have done everything necessary for their performance at the Games. Regardless of the final outcome, he assured that they gave their best efforts.

If they surpass me this summer, I’d acknowledge, “They simply had an edge over me that particular day.” It’s settled then. With this understanding, I can approach the challenge, ready to put forth my utmost effort and strive for success.

On weekdays and Saturdays, my partner and I, based in Arkansas, find ourselves primarily at the racetrack. I hydrate myself with an invigorating concoction of water infused with amino acids, salt, and lemon juice, while she prefers a beef jerky stick and a CELSIUS energy drink for her regular boost. As she put it, “We both need a caffeine kick to maintain our energy levels.”

Under the guidance of their mutual coach Travis Geopfert, they take turns completing sprints, blocking exercises, and other specialized training sessions.

As I shared, there’s an undeniable joy in this experience since we both have the chance to observe one another. It’s a delightful give-and-take, ensuring neither of us is left in the dark about the other’s activities.

After returning home with their dogs Milo and Winnie, Hunter mentioned they were exhausted, heading straight for a warm bath or shower. They chatted about work for a while before indulging in a meal, typically pasta, steaks, and sweet potatoes, with Hunter joking, “Meals after practice are the best, we sure eat a lot!” They then settled down for their current TV show binge.

In my view, I’m currently immersed in a fascinating blend of Syfy’s ‘Resident Alien’ and Tom Brady’s ‘The Greatest Roast of All Time’. To put it humorously, let me say we’re definitely stepping out of our comfort zones!

Their nightly ritual of critiquing each other, though, is comparatively chill.

Hunter admitted, after some delay, that they now understand and value each other’s perspectives regarding their work or ideas.

“Should one of us have an exceptional training session, we might spend the entire afternoon discussing its excellence,” he clarified. “Firstly, to boost our morale and increase our self-assurance and enthusiasm, and secondly, to identify areas for further improvement.”

In such high-stakes situations, they have become exceptionally adept at identifying areas for improvement in one another. As Tara put it, “There’s definitely room for constructive criticism between us, because I notice things he might miss, and vice versa. Given our extensive knowledge of the sport, we can also serve as coaches to each other.”

When their coach isn’t available for meetings, Tara shared that they are well-aligned in terms of their training goals: “I can tell him what I’ve been working on, and he knows what he needs to focus on. We both understand what needs to be addressed, what actions should be taken, and the desired outcome.”

But the gang will all be there in Paris.

Tara expressed her excitement by saying, “I can hardly wait!”, as she booked a trackside seat for both of their events in Tokyo. She was thrilled that they would each get to witness the other compete and share the same space for almost six weeks of intense Olympic preparation. This is something they’ve been striving towards, and it’s an experience they’ve eagerly anticipated. Without a doubt, this will be a memorable moment.

Regarding the 2020 Games, Hunter concurred, expressing gratitude that they took place at all. However, our perspectives have significantly shifted. We are not the same athletes or individuals as we were then; we’ve grown and evolved a bit.

Furthermore, Hunter added, “Our partnerships with brands such as CELSIUS and Lululemon, among others, enable us to devote our full attention to honing our athletic skills without being distracted by other concerns.”

But they are still in their twenties.

Following the completion of their work in France, they are eagerly prepared to affirmatively respond, or say “yes”, to any opportunities that might present themselves subsequently.

After the conclusion of the Paralympics on September 8th, Hunter anticipates that October, November, and December will be quite relaxed according to their travel schedule, which includes a journey with their Celsius team to watch the Formula 1 Grand Prix in Las Vegas during late November.

During the peak of their season, Hunter remarked that they intentionally set aside those months outside of training as a chance for them to enjoy life like typical 25-year-olds. “Enjoy yourselves, celebrate, and socialize with our friends,” he advised.

Basically, chimed in Tara, “Whatever 25-year-olds do, that’s what we’re doing.”

Initially, it was pointed out by Hunter that there were tasks to attend to, beginning with the women’s long jump qualifying rounds scheduled for August 6.

He clarified that they were feeling more certainty and enthusiasm, with a stronger belief in what they were aiming for. This year marked the first time they could genuinely express their goals, as they felt secure enough to back them up.

He emphasized that his third attempt at winning Paralympic gold is heavily influenced by experience and preparation. He believes that preparation plays a crucial role, and as they are more prepared than ever before, he isn’t saying they will win, but rather expressing their strong confidence in themselves.

Additionally, other duos are also aiming for synchronized medals at the 2024 Olympics and Paralympics. Discover which families are turning the competition into a shared endeavor.

Hunter Woodhall was born with a condition known as fibular hemimelia, which meant he lacked fibula bones in both legs. At just 11 months old, he had to undergo a double amputation. However, this physical hurdle didn’t hinder his pace in life.

Originally from Georgia, this individual encountered Tara Davis-Woodhall at a track event in Idaho back in 2017. As he explained in a YouTube clip, he found himself admiring her and said to himself, “Wow, she’s attractive. I’m going to marry that woman.”

From that point forward, Tara, hailing from California, and the other individual were no longer together. However, shared chemistry and monitoring each other’s professional growth on social media kept them connected. In 2021, following the postponement of the Tokyo Games due to the pandemic, they got engaged, and their wedding took place in October 2022 at a vineyard in Texas. Unfortunately, during the Tokyo Games, they couldn’t cheer each other on in person because of COVID-19 restrictions. Yet, with Paris as the next destination, you can imagine their anticipation.

In an interview with TopMob News in May, Tara shared, “This is the project we’ve been diligently working on, and it’s the very thing we’ve all been eagerly anticipating. It promises to be a truly memorable experience.”

Following subpar performances in Tokyo, Noah Lyles and Junelle Bromfield are now striving to win the gold medals in Paris.

Currently, prominent athletes in track and field are thriving on TikTok. In a recent video, my partner and I made an agreement: “We’ll both attend the Olympics, I’ll win every race, you’ll win every race, and we’ll return as the most victorious couple.”

I can certainly appreciate your perspective, and I’m eagerly catching on to your idea. I’ve grasped the concept, and I assure you, it won’t slip through my hands. I’ve got a clear image of where we’re headed, and I’m all set to bring that vision into reality. We’re about to make an unbeatable team.

Lee Kiefer and Gerek Meinhardt have been loyal companions for over a decade, irrespective of whether or not disputes at home are resolved with swords.

Gerek shared with TeamUSA.com that Lee challenges him beyond his comfort zone, her dedication being an inspiration for him. Having met Lee in 2012 and marrying her in September 2019, he added, “I aim to assist her in finding equilibrium, ensuring we don’t overstep boundaries. Our goal is to bring out each other’s potential in unique ways.”

1. When his wife earned a spot for Paris, Gerek expressed on Instagram, “Words fall short to express her desire, effort, or the depth of my pride in her,” while Lee posted upon securing his own ticket, “I’m so incredibly proud! My partner fenced exceptionally well.” (Note: I’ve used ‘earned a spot’, ‘expressed’, and ‘secured his own ticket’ instead of ‘qualified for Paris’, ‘wrote on Instagram’, and ‘punched his ticket’ respectively to make the text more conversational and easier to read.)

Apart from excelling as athlete champions, they are likewise aspiring physicians. They momentarily halted their medical education following their second year at the University of Kentucky to concentrate on training for the Tokyo games, but they intend to pick up where they left off in the year 2025.

Born and raised in Adelaide, Sam Willoughby, aged 32, admired Alise Post from a distance before they connected through MySpace. In an interview with USA Today Sports in 2020, he jokingly mentioned, “I eventually forced my way into her inner circle.”

1. Alise extended an invitation for Sam to join her in sunny California, while the budding BMX racers discovered their desire to cycle side by side eternally. In the winter of 2015, he decided to propose after spending eight years as a couple.

In 2016, a severe training accident brought an end to Sam’s career and left him quadriplegic. This happened nine months after he had proposed. Throughout his recovery process, Alise stood by his side. When reflecting on their relationship, Sam remembered telling her, “You’re not tying the knot with a vegetable,” implying she could move forward without him. To this, she responded, “You’re not a vegetable, and I’m not not marrying you. You’re stuck with me.”

Though he typically relies on a wheelchair, Sam served as his wife’s coach during their 2019 wedding. Remarkably, he managed to walk down the aisle, aided by braces on that special day.

After the incident, Alise expressed that she felt determined to support him right away, and now, during races, he serves as her source of strength. In a way, things have returned to how they started.

Ashley Kovacs, who earned the title of four-time All-American in shot put at the University of Kentucky, has been coaching her husband Joe Kovacs since 2019. Recently, she was appointed as the Women’s Throw Coach for the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Since November 18, 2023, the Kovacs have been married for quite some time. Rather than just accumulating a heap of gleaming trophies, they were blessed with twins – Kannon and Kaari – in October 2022.

Ashley explained to WCMH why they have a shot put ring in their backyard, saying, “They’re always the center of attention, so we take advantage of their naps by training. We wanted a place at home where we could set up our training equipment and make use of that time.”

Joe said, “I’ve never been more content in life, thanks to my wife and kids. This is the finest life I could have ever dreamt of.”

For the past seven years, Gabriella Willems and Christian Parlati have been there for each other. Now, getting to share this Olympic experience in Paris is like a cherished dream realized for them. They hope that their respective finals on July 31st will be a day filled with tears of joy, marking a happy chapter in their shared journey.

2021 saw me, Alex De Minaur, securing a spot for Tokyo Olympics. However, a positive COVID-19 test forced me to withdraw from the games. Luckily, my partner in mixed doubles at Wimbledon 2023, Katie Boulter, and I will both be making our Olympic debuts in Paris.

During a post-match interview in January, I joked about Katie’s sweet comment she left on my Instagram, saying, “I must admit, I was taken aback when she had something positive to say about me. Typically, whenever she responds to my social media posts, it’s usually playful banter at my expense. It’s refreshing every once in a while to receive a genuine compliment.”

Katie might exhibit a playful wit in her humor, as indicated by her comment on a recent post celebrating their fourth anniversary with Alex – “not too serious… just the one ring that fits for me” – yet their love is undeniably strong and unbeatable, like a perfect game, set, and match.

It turned out that they discovered during a spontaneous chat over coffee, which happened when they bumped into each other at 6 a.m. in the same hotel, that he was the person she was looking for.

As a child, I had an incredibly strong bond with my grandfather,” she shared with The Age in June. “If I could ever meet someone who possessed even a fraction of his kindness, I believed I would be the happiest woman alive. I’ve been fortunate enough to find such a person in Alex.”

As a diehard fan, I can hardly contain my excitement! The phenomenal Lea Schüller, a forward for Bayern Munich, is all set to make her Olympic debut with the German women’s soccer team. What makes this even more thrilling is that two-time Olympic sailor Lara Vadlau will be there to guide her through the adventure and teach her some fancy nautical knots! To top it off, Paris will host them for a whole three weeks, giving us fans an extended opportunity to witness their greatness in the same city.

In the same interview for her partner’s football club, Lara, who is a doctor when she isn’t busy saving lives, expressed that it’s incredibly useful because we both grasp what your sport requires. Given that you spend a significant amount of time away and our schedules rarely align.

Lea remarked, “We spend about three to five consecutive days together, which feels somewhat similar to a long-distance relationship. Despite living together in Munich, it’s like one of us is constantly traveling.”

Rossella Fiamingo expressed to Olympics.com a level of excitement similar to that of a competitor herself, as she watches her fiancé participate in the 10K open water swim (if it takes place in the River Seine during the Paris Games).

Besides supporting Rossella’s sport wholeheartedly as it’s captivating to behold, Gregorio Paltrinieri also showed up unexpectedly in Milan during the 2023 World Fencing Championships to witness the women’s épée final. After clinching another gold and silver at the 2023 World Swimming Championships in Fukuoka, Japan, his passion for sports led him there.

In an interview with Olympics.com later on, I shared my surprise, having been taken aback. She had inquired about my presence the previous evening, to which I confessed I was drained.

Well, he may be a trickster, but he’s also her No. 1 supporter.

As a lifestyle expert, I’d rephrase that sentiment as follows: “Just like when my own team doesn’t bring home gold, Rossella may be feeling let down by Italy’s silver win. However, it’s essential to remember that success isn’t always immediate; there are victories and setbacks along the way. I too have experienced disappointments, but I never allow them to shake my faith. This is the advice I would give her: Don’t lose hope, for every challenge faced is a step towards greater achievements.”

Dominik Cerny chose the conclusion of the women’s 35km race at the 2023 World Athletics Championships in Budapest, held last August, as the perfect moment to propose to Hana Burzalova, with Paris on his mind.

After nearly four years, which is almost equivalent to an Olympic cycle, I felt that now was the perfect moment to move forward.

Instead of hastily walking towards the altar, he mentioned, there’s a possibility that we might only make our decision two days prior. We enjoy spontaneity. At the Olympics in Paris, it’s possible that we will participate as the Cerny family—perhaps in a new event, the relay race walk.

Way to keep the world on its toes while keeping one foot in contact with the ground at all times.

Elina Svitolina and Gael Monfils, who tied the knot in 2021 and are now parents to Skai (born in October 2022), have previously participated in the Olympics, but this time they embark on this journey as proud parents for the first time.

In March 2023, during an interview at the Miami Open, Gael emphasized to reporters that his wife is an exceptional mother above all else. He believes that people often prioritize tennis over family, but in his opinion, she’s a fantastic mother first and foremost. As her partner, he values this role most significantly because, while they are a tennis couple, their lives extend far beyond the sport.

Elina emphasized that she’s not just a tennis player; she sees herself as someone who can help and support the people of Ukraine, too. In an interview with TIME in April, she expressed, “Every time I step onto the court, every time I play a match, I am representing the indomitable spirit of the Ukrainian people.”
