It’s been nearly a decade since fans have been eagerly anticipating the release of the Nintendo Switch 2. Finally, Target has announced when pre-orders will be available for this highly anticipated console. While some may have expected Nintendo to unveil a revolutionary device as they often do, the Nintendo Switch 2 appears to be an upgraded and refined version of its predecessor. Notable improvements include the Joy-Con controllers being transformed into a mouse for games like “Civilization 7”. This approach seems fitting for Nintendo, as the original Switch is one of the best-selling consoles ever made, suggesting that if it’s not broken, there’s no need to fix it!
Generally speaking, the Nintendo Switch 2 appears to be an impressive piece of equipment; however, it’s been met with some debate. The high price tag of $450 makes it one of Nintendo’s costliest consoles ever, a significant increase from the $300 of the original Switch. This hefty price hike leaves many fans questioning how much they’ll need to spend on games for the new console, which can reach up to $80 each. Despite these concerns, there are plenty of people eager to splurge and get their hands on the new console when it launches this summer.
Here’s When You Can Pre-Order a Nintendo Switch 2
As a fervent admirer eagerly awaiting the Nintendo Switch 2, I’m thrilled to share that the console’s price, despite the tariff-induced delays in U.S. pre-orders, remains unaltered! The grand moment we’ve all been waiting for is almost upon us, as pre-orders are set to kick off next week, specifically on Thursday, April 24th. This exciting news gives fans like me an opportunity to secure our consoles before its anticipated June release.
While the exact pre-order times may fluctuate across retailers, Target has provided a heads-up for their patrons. Target enthusiasts can reserve their Nintendo Switch 2 at 12AM ET on April 24th. This means some of us might need to pull an all-nighter to snag it from Target!

It’s quite possible that other shops might start taking pre-orders at midnight, similar to what GameStop is doing when their stores open on April 24th. Customers can choose to pre-order just the console or a package deal that includes “Mario Kart World” for $499.99 in-store. Additionally, pre-orders for Nintendo Switch 2 games and accessories will become available at 12AM ET on Target’s website. Regrettably, it appears Amazon won’t be offering the Nintendo Switch 2 this time, so customers who wanted to use Amazon Prime for this purchase will need to explore other options.
If you prefer hands-on shopping, Best Buy is organizing a midnight release for the Nintendo Switch 2 in June. Excited fans can pre-order their console online and pick it up from the store later. There are various ways to experience the Nintendo Switch 2 launch this coming summer.
