Taskmaster winner confirmed as first Strictly 2024 Christmas special celeb

As a long-time admirer of Josh Widdicombe’s comedic prowess, I must say it’s always a pleasure to see him take on new challenges. From Taskmaster to The Last Leg and his own BBC Three sitcom, he’s proven time and again that he can handle the spotlight with grace and humor.

Despite the ongoing competition on Strictly Come Dancing, preparations for its traditional Christmas special are already gaining momentum. The initial contestant for this year’s holiday edition has officially been revealed.

Funny man Josh Widdicombe is set to sport glittering sequins for the upcoming dance-off, where he’ll team up with pro dancer Karen Hauer. On Christmas Day, they will face off against five other pairs in this exciting competition.

Tonight’s episode of “It Takes Two,” the companion show for “Strictly Come Dancing,” disclosed that Widdicombe was the initial celebrity hiding within the doors of the special advent calendar.

He expressed his feelings as follows: “I’m absolutely petrified that this could lead to embarrassment, and fearful that I might be so terrible that I’ll spoil Christmas for everyone. What on earth possessed me to do this?

You might remember the comedian as a winner from the initial season and the first Champion of Champions on the popular entertainment show “Taskmaster,” hosted by Greg Davies and Alex Horne.

Apart from being recognized on Channel 4’s popular talk show The Last Leg, Widdicombe is also famed for his role in the BBC Three sitcom titled “Josh,” in which he portrayed a fictitious character based on himself.

Typically, during the Strictly Come Dancing Christmas special, each of the six pairs will showcase holiday-themed dances in front of both the judges and the live audience. The evening’s champion will be announced within the same broadcast.

This year’s version of the flagship event featured two former participants from past Christmas spin-offs, as both JLS vocalist JB Gill and soap opera actor Jamie Borthwick (from EastEnders) made their comeback to compete for the actual Glitterball prize.

Both have been doing exceptionally well thus far. For the past two consecutive weeks, Gill has led the Strictly Come Dancing leaderboard, and Borthwick managed to finish first in two previous episodes as well. It’s exciting to see if Widdicombe might discover a hidden talent!
