Taylor Swift breaks Kanye West’s Billboard album charts record

As a fan who has witnessed the highs and lows of both artists, I can’t help but feel a sense of satisfaction seeing Taylor Swift outshine Kanye West yet again. Their feud is as iconic as their music, and it seems like Swift continues to prove that she doesn’t need anyone’s validation to reign supreme in the music industry.

As a long-time fan of Kanye West and someone who has closely followed his illustrious career, I must admit that I was taken aback by this week’s news. For nearly two decades, Kanye has reigned supreme in the world of music with an unparalleled streak of No. 1 album debuts. However, it appears that Taylor Swift has managed to break his record-setting run and claim the top spot for herself. While I’m always excited about new releases from my favorite artists, this development feels like a significant milestone in Taylor’s career and an intriguing shift in the music industry landscape. It will be interesting to see how Kanye responds to this challenge, as he has always been known for his resilience and innovative spirit.

In the United States, Swift’s The Tortured Poet’s Department remained number one on the Billboard 200 for its 14th consecutive week, pushing West’s latest album, Vultures 2 (a collaboration with Ty Dolla $ign), into second place.

Previously, West hadn’t started at the top of the charts since his 2004 debut, “The College Dropout,” which entered the charts at position 2 instead of 1.

Swift’s success arises during an ongoing conflict between the musicians, a dispute that originated at the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards when West interrupted her acceptance speech for Best Female Video (for You Belong With Me), claiming: “Hey Taylor, I’m truly pleased for you. Let you complete your speech. But Beyoncé had one of the most outstanding videos ever made!”

In his 2016 track “Famous,” West referred to Swift as a “vixen,” asserting that he had secured her approval for the use of such language.

In response to the allegation, Swift refuted it, which prompted Kim Kardashian, West’s former partner, to disclose excerpts from a conversation between Swift and West. These exchanges seemed to suggest that Swift had actually been supportive of the song after its creation.

Kardashian referred to Swift as a ‘snake’ following the release of the call, tweeting: “It seems National Snake Day is actually happening! It appears we now have a holiday for everyone and everything these days!”

In an interview with Vogue in 2019, regarding the high-profile scandal, Taylor Swift expressed that being publicly shamed on a massive scale, with countless individuals labeling her as “cancelled,” feels incredibly lonely.

As someone who has experienced online harassment and cancellation, I firmly believe that when people say someone is “cancelled,” it’s more than just a TV show. It’s a real human being with feelings, dreams, and a life beyond the internet. When we send mass amounts of criticism or negative messages to this person, it can feel like a call to silence them, disappear from public view, or even worse, a veiled threat to take their own life. We must remember that our words have power and can cause harm, especially when directed at someone who is already vulnerable or marginalized. It’s important to approach online discourse with empathy, understanding, and respect for the humanity of others.

Initially known as West (formerly), now recognized as Ye, and Ty, whose birth name is Tyrone Griffin Jr, dropped Vultures 1 in February. The sequel came out earlier this month, albeit delayed from its original March release schedule.

One of the songs in Vultures 2 seems to make a nod towards Taylor Swift, as Lil Wayne sings: “I coil my Taylor swift knots snug at the end, just like Travis Kelce,” which appears to be a reference to her current partner, Travis Kelce, who is a tight end for the Kansas City Chiefs.
