**Warning: Contains spoilers for The Handmaid’s Tale season 6 episode 9.**

Fans of Taylor Swift worldwide are elated as her long-anticipated track from the re-recorded version of her album Reputation made its premiere during the current season 6 installment of The Handmaid’s Tale.

Instead of the original version: Taylor Swift is re-recording and publishing new versions titled ‘Taylor’s Versions’ for her initial six studio albums – Taylor Swift, Fearless, Speak Now, Red, 1989, and Reputation – in order to regain ownership of the music.

Taylor Swift is remaking and sharing fresh takes called ‘Taylor’s Versions’ on her first six studio albums – Taylor Swift, Fearless, Speak Now, Red, 1989, and Reputation – with the aim of reclaiming control over the music.

Ever since Taylor Swift unveiled her version of ‘1989’ in October 2023 and dropped a hint about ‘Reputation (Taylor’s Version)’ during an interview with Time magazine in December, excitement has been growing steadily about its release.

It seems the waiting period is almost at an end, as fans have caught a glimpse of what’s to come with the upcoming album.

In the gripping opening sequence of season 6, episode 9 (Execution), I found myself immersed in a captivating echo of Taylor Swift’s revamped anthem, “Look What You Made Me Do.

In the scene, the fragment of the tune was heard while June (played by Elis Elizabeth Moss) instigated a revolt against the Leaders of Gilead – quite appropriate, as it mirrored the rebellious ideas Taylor Swift expresses in her song Look What You Made Me Do.

In this rephrased version, the television show is set within a dystopian society that mirrors Margaret Atwood’s acclaimed novel, focusing on enslaved handmaids like June, who are compelled to conceive children in an alternate America where birth rates have significantly declined.

In 2019, Taylor Swift’s Big Machine Records albums were re-recorded by Swift herself, following the sale of the label and the rights to the master recordings of the songs she produced there to Scooter Braun. This gives him authority over the distribution of her music from that era and the earnings generated from its utilization.

On Tumblr, Swift expressed in a thoughtful post that for quite some time, she’s attempted to regain ownership of her master recordings through purchasing them back.

She explained: “I chose to depart because I understood that if I signed that contract, Scott Borchetta would eventually sell the label, which meant he’d also be selling me and my future prospects. It was an incredibly difficult decision to let go of my past.

I composed music on my bedroom floor, and devised video ideas that I funded with the income I received from performing in various venues – bars, clubs, arenas, and stadiums.
