Authorities are filling a blank space in their investigation of a major ticketing scam.
On February 27th, two individuals were apprehended due to their suspected participation in a scheme to pilfer and re-sell more than 900 concert tickets, primarily for Taylor Swift‘s highly successful Eras Tour. This illegal activity is said to have generated over $600,000 in profits, according to a statement from the Queens District Attorney’s Office on March 3rd.
20-year-old Tyrone Rose from Jamaica and 31-year-old Shamara P. Simmons of Queens, New York were brought before a court on allegations of grand larceny in the second degree, unauthorized access to computer systems in the first and fourth degrees, and conspiracy to commit a crime. If found guilty, they could spend up to 15 years behind bars, as stated by the district attorney.
As stated by Melinda Katz from Queens District Attorney’s office, these suspects allegedly aimed to capitalize on the fame of Taylor Swift’s concert tour and other prominent events, doing so at the expense of others.
According to Katz, they are accused of finding a way around a rule by using an overseas ticket broker, then seizing and re-selling these tickets for a massive financial gain.
