Coming up next month in English is the new game, Pokemon Scarlet & Violet – Destined Rivals. It’s exciting news for fans as it gets closer to release! Interestingly, the Pokemon Trading Card Game set, titled The Glory of Team Rocket, will be a blend of Japanese expansions. This set is already being rolled out in Japan, and all its cards have been unveiled.
Intriguingly, this set includes cards inspired by numerous Team Rocket characters from the video game series. However, it seems that the 2 most recognized members of the group, Jessie and James, who were staples in the Pokemon anime series, will not be making an appearance as cards in this set, according to PokeBeach.
In contrast to being viewed as a sequel to the initial Team Rocket collection from the early years of the Pokemon Trading Card Game, “The Glory of Team Rocket” is instead focusing on new characters that debuted in the video games. Originally, the set promised to reintroduce fan favorites like Jessie and James, who have frequently appeared in the TCG. However, it appears that this won’t happen; instead, the set will emphasize figures such as Giovanni, Archer, and Ariana, who were all introduced in the video games.
As a dedicated Pokémon TCG enthusiast diving back into the world of Team Rocket, I’m thrilled to learn that despite Jessie and James not getting their own cards this time around, there are plenty of nostalgic callbacks in store for us! For instance, cards like Rocket’s Hypno echo classic attacks from the original Team Rocket set, but with modern twists and adjustments that cater to the game’s evolution over the years. This suggests that the upcoming set will be an exciting addition to any collection, whether you’re a newcomer or a long-time collector who cherishes the history of these iconic Pokémon cards.
It’s uncertain why Jesse and James didn’t make it into the “The Glory of Team Rocket” collection. PokeBeach proposes that their exclusion might be linked to their characters being phased out from the series, along with Ash Ketchum. The ongoing “Pokemon Horizons” anime presents a fresh set of characters. If Ash ever comes back, as suggested by The Pokemon Company, it’s likely that Jessie and James wouldn’t be too far behind. In such a scenario, we might even see some new TCG cards to commemorate their return.
The upcoming game titled “Pokemon Scarlet & Violet – Destined Rivals” is scheduled to launch in English on May 30th. In comparison to Team Rocket cards, this set will also feature Trainer’s Pokémon, much like the current “Journey Together” collection. Notably, fans can anticipate encountering more recognizable characters from the video games, including Misty, Ethan, Arven, and Cynthia in this new release. Pre-orders for the set were initiated on the official Pokémon Center website earlier in March; however, the sales did not meet expectations as planned.
