As I reflect on the lives of these remarkable individuals who left us this July, it is impossible not to be moved by their stories. Each one, in their unique way, has left an indelible mark on our collective consciousness.
The tech world and family blogging community are mourning the loss of a beloved member.
On October 5th, Justin Bigham, the CEO of Opiniion software firm and a well-known family blogger, tragically passed away after a fall within Utah’s Zion National Park. He was 40 years old, as confirmed by his company.
Sharing loss is the toughest experience, as no words seem adequate and emotions fall short. This sentiment rings true today as we mourn the tragic loss of our CEO, Justin Dbingham, who passed away over the weekend while pursuing his passion for canyoneering. Despite the swift actions of multiple emergency teams, they were unable to save him.
At Opiniion, Justin wasn’t just our leader, he was a cherished friend, guide, embodiment of dedication, and most importantly, part of our family. He took the time to know each of us personally, greeting everyone individually every day when he arrived at work. His affection for us was never in question, nor was his affection for those he worked with. We’ll forever remember his optimism, kindness, and the tireless effort that propelled Opiniion to its current success. With love and a heavy heart, Opiniion, Inc.
As reported by NBC affiliate KSLTV, citing local authorities, Justin was part of a climbing group adhering to an authorized route. During their descent from Heaps Canyon over the weekend, around 6 p.m., Justin unfortunately fell, estimating between 150-200 feet in distance.
Officials additionally informed the media that Justin was subsequently flown by a Utah Public Safety helicopter to a close-by campsite, where he was later moved to a Life Flight Helicopter for further medical attention. Regrettably, he passed away during this flight prior to reaching the hospital.
Justin and his spouse, Lindsay, were recognized for running a family YouTube channel called “Our Life in Holland.” On this platform, they shared their daily experiences along with their kids, Turin, Ashton, Landon, and Ava Bingham. Part of their narrative revolved around the journey of their son, Landon, who lived with cerebral palsy.
The website indicates that the family derived their YouTube handle from a tale about a plane journey where the passengers discovered unexpected beauty when their flight from one country (presumably France or Germany) to Italy was rerouted to the Netherlands instead.
In my “About Me” section, I want to clarify that when I refer to “Life in Holland,” I’m using it metaphorically.
Meet Justin and Lindsay, parents to a lively brood of six. Our household includes three boisterous boys and a charming girl who are the light of our lives. We thrive on fun and exploration as a family unit. On our website, you’ll find us expressing our pursuit of happiness in the simple, often overlooked treasures we discover in the charming town we affectionately call Holland. Our mantra is to cherish the small joys, appreciate the unforeseen charms, make the most of every situation, prioritize what truly matters, offer heartfelt love, learn from our missteps, and keep a smile on our faces through it all. We invite you to join us on part of our family’s exciting journey.
Lindsay has yet to speak out about Justin’s death, Opiniion requested privacy on her behalf.
On Opiniion’s site, they politely request privacy and empathy for Justin’s family during this challenging period. They pledge to honor Justin’s memory by carrying on with the work they started and nurturing the connections they’ve built.
