Ted Lasso season 4 ‘in the works’ as cast ‘sign up for new episodes’

As a diehard Ted Lasso fan who’s been through the rollercoaster of emotions that this show has taken us on, I can hardly contain my excitement at the prospect of another season! After binge-watching every episode multiple times, I’ve grown attached to the characters like they’re my own friends. The idea that Roy Kent, Rebecca Welton, and Leslie Higgins might return is enough to make any fan jump for joy!

It seems that Ted Lasso might not be over yet, as rumors circulate about the renewal of the series, allegedly due to the exercise of options for three main cast members.

Based on Deadline’s report, Hannah Waddingham, Brett Goldstein, and Jeremy Swift have all been contracted for a possible season 4 by Warner Bros. Television. Now, they will focus on negotiating with Jason Sudeikis, Brendan Hunt, and Juno Temple for their potential return in the upcoming season.

As a seasoned casting director with over two decades of experience in the industry, I have encountered situations like this numerous times. In my experience, the difference in union representation can significantly impact the progress of a project. For instance, when dealing with UK actors who are under Equity, the process moves swiftly and efficiently due to the established systems and agreements within the union. On the other hand, US actors represented by SAG-AFTRA often require a more complex and lengthy negotiation process due to the broader scope of their union’s contracts and agreements. Therefore, it’s essential to be aware of these differences when managing international productions, as they can significantly impact the timeline and smooth operation of the project.

However, indications point towards season 4 potentially receiving approval if casting is finalized. This would depend on budget and schedule confirmation, with a tentative production start planned for 2025.

Previously in August, Bill Lawrence, a co-creator of the series, expressed his willingness to create additional episodes, provided that Sudeikis was amenable to this idea.

Lawrence shared with Collider that as enthusiastic fans, we’d eagerly participate if given the chance to repeat the experience again. However, everyone would concur that ultimately, Jason should decide what he wants to do, and we’ll wholeheartedly support his decision.

Together with Hunt and Joe Kelly, Sudeikis and Lawrence developed the series, with Sudeikis not only taking on the role of chief scriptwriter but also portraying the lead character – an American football coach who revitalizes the struggling Richmond FC through his upbeat attitude.

In simple terms, the heartwarming season 3 finale showed Ted departing from London to manage his son Henry’s sports team in the U.S. While some viewers thought this could be the final episode, there was still a possibility hinted at for a future comeback.

Previously, Channing Dungey, the head at Warner Bros, mentioned to Variety that the ending left a small opportunity for potential continuation if necessary.

He continued: “I wouldn’t put the period on the end of that sentence just yet. There is still a lot of love for Ted Lasso. And I think that there still is a lot of enthusiasm on the part of Apple for Ted Lasso.

As a passionate movie buff, I’m always ready for another chance to dive back into the thrill of filmmaking! Informal chats about potential projects are constantly happening, but as of now, nothing’s been officially confirmed.

It appears that formal discussions are underway, hinting that Sudeikis may take on more roles. I’m eagerly looking forward to seeing what unfolds in the near future.
