Teen Murder Suspect Claims Menendez Brothers as Inspiration

A Wisconsin teen accused of killing his mother says he was inspired by the Menendez brothers

As a devoted follower, I found myself in an unexpected position after watching the Netflix documentary about the Menendez brothers’ tragic murders of their parents. According to the authorities, I’m Reed Gelinskey, a 15-year-old who, regrettably, is said to have taken the life of my mother, identified in court documents as SG, following that harrowing viewing experience. My mother was an elementary school teacher, much like Kitty Menendez.

On March 6, Gelinskey was accused of first-degree intentional murder, potentially facing a lifetime imprisonment. The authorities apprehended the teenager at his residence in Franksville following Snapchat messages he had sent to a friend, as stated in court documents obtained by NBC News, with the friend subsequently informing the police.

According to the complaint, it was stated in a social media message by Gelinskey that he had killed his mother, accompanied by images showing a woman lying flat on her back and pools of blood on the floor.

NBC News’ report reveals that at around 10:30 p.m., officers encountered Gelinskey leaving his residence carrying a knife. Upon encountering them, he discarded the knife and declared, “She is deceased due to my actions.

According to the complaint, Gelinskey was apprehended and subsequently discovered to have stains of blood on his attire. During an interview at the Caledonia Police Department, Gelinskey described feeling down after school and having a desire to harm his parents, as stated in the complaint. Additionally, he mentioned that he believed he was under the influence due to anxiety medication he had been taking.

He informed authorities that at first, he intended to murder his father but changed his mind when he couldn’t find a big enough hammer. Instead, they shared a meal and later, he watched the Netflix series about the Menendez Brothers while his mother was on the computer with him on the couch, as stated in the complaint.

According to what Gelinskey told authorities during an interview, he devised a plot to murder his mother after viewing a particularly gruesome scene in a documentary about the Menendez brothers’ murder of their parents. As stated in the complaint, at approximately 9:50 p.m., Gelinskey allegedly concealed his sleeping pills and tricked his mother into coming downstairs with him to search for them.

While descending the stairs side by side, Gelinskey (following his mom) unexpectedly hit her twice with a dumbbell he’d secreted under his sweater. After that, he pushed her to the floor and fatally wounded her three times in the chest and twice in the neck using a steak knife he’d kept hidden as well. As stated in the complaint, at some point during her death, Gelinskey’s mother allegedly asked him, “Why?

To which he allegedly told her, “Pain.”

As reported by NBC News affiliate WTMJ-TV4 Milwaukee, Gelinskey is now being held in detention with a bail amount set at $1 million. A preliminary hearing has been scheduled for March 12th.
