Over the coming months, you can expect a wealth of new content for Tekken 8. Bandai Namco has revealed their plans for the game’s future, which include the introduction of a fresh DLC character, both free and paid cosmetic items, a partnership with a movie studio, and numerous other updates. However, the most exciting announcement is the arrival of the next DLC fighter for the game. It’s official that Season 2 will bring back Fahkumram, a character who first appeared as a DLC fighter in Tekken 7. At this point, an exact release date hasn’t been disclosed, but we can expect to see Fahkumram return to the series sometime this summer.
starting from May 13th, Tekken 8 will start rolling out its updates with Balance Adjustment #1. This update brings the free Tekken Ghost Showdown, along with the paid Cyber Phantom Pack and Vigilante Tech Pack. On June 3rd, a free collaboration with Karate Kid: Legends will be available together with Balance Adjustment #2, as well as more free and premium character skins. The third Balance Adjustment doesn’t have a specific release date yet, but it’s set for summer. During this season, players can anticipate a lot of Pac-Man themed content, including the new Pac-Pixels stage. You can watch a trailer showcasing all these updates below.
Thus far, the response to the announcements on YouTube and Reddit has been overwhelmingly negative regarding Tekken 8. Players were already disheartened by the current season, and these recent updates haven’t helped improve their sentiments. Fahkumram was a contentious character in Tekken 7 due to his overpowered abilities. It is plausible that the developers will have fine-tuned him for a better gaming experience; however, there seems to be little excitement about his comeback at present. One YouTube user labeled Fahkumram as “a character nobody asked for,” while others raised doubts about the wisdom of featuring the same fighter as DLC in two consecutive games. It was previously known that the next DLC character for Tekken 8 would be a returning one, but fans were hoping for someone new to appear instead.
The collaboration between Karate Kid: Legends has drawn criticism from players of Tekken 8. Although the partnership seems logical, critics feel that it offers little more than a free cosmetic hoodie and promotional signage. They argue that it would have been more fitting to reintroduce Lei Wulong, a character influenced by Jackie Chan, who is also a star in Karate Kid: Legends. Instead, Bandai Namco has opted to return Fahkumram, and some even claim that the new Pac-Man-inspired stage resembles too closely the Geometric Plane stage from the earlier Tekken games.
I’m hoping that the response from fans will be more positive once the content for this game becomes available. The release of Tekken 8 was met with widespread praise last year, but since the launch of Season 2, it seems like many members of the gaming community have started to doubt Bandai Namco. It looks like regaining their trust will take some work.
