As a seasoned gamer with decades of gaming history under my belt, I must confess that I was rather taken aback by Bandai Namco’s decision to introduce Clive Rosfield from Final Fantasy 16 into Tekken 8. Don’t get me wrong, I adore the intricate world-building and captivating narratives of the Final Fantasy series, but when it comes to high-octane fighting games like Tekken, I’ve always leaned towards more martial arts-centric characters or those with a solid background in combat.
In the lead-up to The Game Awards, Bandai Namco hinted that they would reveal the next downloadable character for “Tekken 8” at the event. Now, we finally know who will be joining the game. Many fans had hoped that Tifa Lockhart from “Final Fantasy 7” would make an appearance due to high fan demand, but the announced DLC character isn’t Tifa. Instead, it’s another star from the “Final Fantasy” series.
In the upcoming week, Clive Rosfield, the main character from Final Fantasy 16 and the Dominant of Ifrit, will join Tekken 8 as its next DLC character. This marks the end of Year 1 for the game’s DLC support, with Year 2 scheduled to begin in Spring 2025. The trailer provides a sneak peek at Clive’s abilities, showcasing a skillset filled with aerial, powerful, flamboyant attacks befitting the Dominant of Ifrit. You can watch the trailer here.
You can find Tekken 8 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, as well as PC platforms. On the other hand, Final Fantasy 16 is exclusively playable on PlayStation 5 and PC systems.
