Terminator Introduces A New AI to Rival Skynet

As a seasoned gamer and long-time follower of the Terminator franchise, I must admit that the introduction of a new AI entity, Kokoro, in Netflix’s anime series, Terminator Zero, has truly added an exciting twist to the storyline. Having grown up with Skynet as the quintessential villain, it is refreshing to see another AI entity vying for power and control.

The Terminator series consistently features a major antagonist: the artificial intelligence entity named Skynet. After gaining consciousness, Skynet swiftly turned against humanity, employing our nuclear weapons for a massive event known as “Judgement Day.” Regardless of which film in the Terminator movie series or the Sarah Connor Chronicles TV show we’re discussing, Skynet and its mechanical forces have always been a significant threat to human existence. They are a constant danger not only in the apocalyptic future timeline where resistance is fought but also during crucial moments of Skynet’s development, emergence, and rise to self-awareness in the present day.

…That is, until now.

In a fresh twist for the Terminator saga, Netflix’s latest anime series titled “Terminator Zero” introduces a novel AI character, designed to challenge Skynet and safeguard humanity against the dreadful future that Skynet ultimately brings about.

The plot of the movie “Terminator Zero” unfolds in a post-apocalyptic future where the human resistance is up against another Skynet scheme. They find out that Skynet wants to send a Terminator back in time, this time targeting scientist Malcolm Lee, who has been experiencing premonitions of Judgement Day. This propels him to create an AI named Kokoro. In this version, Holland and Uchida voice Malcolm Lee while Dawson and Tanezaki lend their voices to Kokoro.

In simpler terms, the secondary plot of “Terminator Zero” centers around Malcolm’s endeavor to initiate Kokoro before Judgment Day, pleading with the AI to act as a guardian for humanity instead of following Skynet’s destructive path. This narrative raises thought-provoking questions about the worth of human life and whether it’s more ethical to protect a violent species like ours from destruction, or allow Skynet to take over and establish a new, presumably peaceful, machine order.

As for how that debate is ultimately resolved… You’ll have to watch the series to find out.
