DC Comics boasts a plethora of iconic characters that have transcended the comic book realm into mainstream popular culture. Among these, the Teen Titans stand out as highly popular, with their popularity spanning over several decades. The New Teen Titans era is particularly renowned. However, subsequent attempts to recreate this period of success have resulted in a series of decreasing returns, given the Titans’ significant role in DC Comics history. Presently, the Titans possess their own comic book series, and it’s marked by the return of one of DC’s most notorious villains – Deathstroke. The ongoing rivalry between the Titans and Deathstroke has been a long-standing one, prompting speculation about Deathstroke’s return for another confrontation. This feud between the Titans and Deathstroke has claimed its fair share of casualties, with Terra being the most recognized. Terra met her end in “The Judas Contract”, but has resurfaced multiple times. However, this latest comeback is set to stun readers.

In comic book lore, the tale of Terra’s life stands as one of the saddest in DC Comics history. Whenever she makes a comeback, it’s a significant event, given that her demise played a pivotal role in the ongoing conflict between the Titans and Deathstroke. In Teen Titans #22, we discover Terra’s current role amidst the lives of her former companions, unveiling an action that was previously deemed impossible. The legacy of Terra is intriguing, and this latest plot twist could potentially alter the perspective fans have on her for eternity.

Terra Is Beyond Complicated

Tara Markov is actually Terra, the illegitimate child of the King of Markovia. The Markovs are a royal family known for their earth-based powers; Tara’s older brother Brion, also known as Geo-Force, possesses similar abilities along with super strength, invulnerability, and energy powers. As a geokinetic, Tara has the ability to manipulate Earth.

Before her life took a dark turn, Tara was a mercenary. During this time, she crossed paths with Deathstroke, who exploited her and turned her into an undercover spy within the Teen Titans. Despite being discovered, she managed to deceive everyone, even earning Beast Boy’s affection in the process. Her betrayal culminated in an attack on the team during “The Judas Contract”.

Tara was a troubled young woman, her troubles stemming from her life as a mercenary and Deathstroke’s manipulations. In a tragic turn of events, she lost control of her powers while attempting to kill the Titans. Instead, she ended up taking her own life, leaving the Titans with a loss that would forever haunt them.

The tale known as ‘The Judas Contract’ stands among DC Comics’ most impactful stories, leaving a lasting impression on fans. Characterized by Terra, this narrative has transcended the realm of comics, influencing the animation world – it was featured in the 2000s ‘Teen Titans’ cartoon and received an animated movie adaptation. In the comic books, DC has resurrected Terra multiple times, the first occasion being in the mid to late 80s, where they utilized a version from an alternate reality on their team. Over the years, DC continuity quirks have led to her recurrence in various forms. With the introduction of the New 52, she made another appearance and has remained ever since. In this latest storyline, Terra is the architect behind Deathstroke’s most recent plan – she rescued him from Amanda Waller following ‘Dark Crisis on Infinite Earths’, re-administered a new batch of super serum, and sent him to gather a team aimed at destroying the Titans. It’s unusual to have Terra as the mastermind and exploiting Deathstroke in this manner, but it’s refreshing to witness such a twist. The return of Terra is bound to cause turmoil among the Titans, affecting one member who has already made a critical choice.

Terra’s Return Is Going Devastate Beast Boy, but He’s Already Made a Fateful Choice

Among the Titans, it’s clear that Terra’s resurrection will have a profound impact on one member in particular – Beast Boy. Despite moving past his romantic feelings for her, Terra’s demise has left an indelible mark on him. Beast Boy harbors deep-seated anger towards Deathstroke for his role in that tragedy, and their relationship has only soured further since then. During the events of Dark Crisis on Infinite Earths, Deathstroke shot Beast Boy, costing him an eye that eventually regrew. This encounter has fueled his animosity towards Deathstroke even more. In truth, Beast Boy is resolved that this will be their final encounter and he’s tired of dealing with Deathstroke’s antics. He has made up his mind to put an end to Deathstroke once and for all.

Beast Boy has had feelings for Terra for a long time, so when he learns she’s alive with vengeance in her heart, it could push him over the edge. The Titans have been tense since they disbanded as the world’s top superhero team, and Terra’s return might be what sets them off and sends them spiraling downward.
