Terrifier 4 Gets First Major Update From Director (And Teases Art the Clown’s Origin Story)

The fourth installment of “Terrifier” is currently being developed, and its creator, Damien Leone, has shared some exciting insights about what horror enthusiasts can anticipate from Art the Clown’s next chilling story. Leone shared a draft of the script for “Terrifier 4” on his Instagram, expressing that it promises to be the most intense, terrifying, suspenseful, emotional, and fulfilling end to the “Terrifier” series. Moreover, Leone hinted that he will finally unveil Art’s origin in this sequel, which is sure to fuel excitement among fans of the franchise given the mysterious nature of Art the Clown as a character.

So far, the Terrifier series has left no doubt that Art the Clown is a ruthless killer who finds joy in gruesomely murdering his victims, and also hinted at a mysterious, supernatural past. The movies have always made it clear that Art’s bloodthirsty nature is prominent, but the details surrounding his otherworldly origins have been subtly suggested over time.

In the initial movie “Terrifier,” Art the Clown, played by David Thornton Howard, was depicted as a murderous clown who terrorized his victims on Halloween. However, it was later revealed that Art’s death at the end of the film was not what it seemed. Art continued his violent rampage in “Terrifier 2,” ultimately meeting a grisly end when he was decapitated by the franchise’s protagonist Sienna Shaw (Lauren LaVera). Yet, despite this, Art miraculously came back to life in a psychiatric hospital, accompanied by his former victim-turned-ally, Victoria Heyes (Samantha Scaffidi), who had suffered severe disfigurement.

In the holiday-themed sequel, Terrifier 3, the characters Art, Victoria, and Sienna’s roles revealed an eerie glimpse into their supernatural aspects. Interestingly, it was Victoria who got demonically possessed as Art’s partner. Afterwards, following Victoria’s beheading by Sienna, her blood inexplicably opened a gateway to the underworld, with both Victoria and Art miraculously surviving after Sienna slashed their throats.

In the “Terrifier” series, the movies have left Art the Clown’s intentions and background shrouded in mystery. However, “Terrifier 3” introduces an intriguing twist by suggesting that Art could be a demon from Hell, disguised as a terrifying clown. On the other hand, Sienna is portrayed differently in this installment, with symbolism positioning her as a figure similar to Jesus. For instance, she is adorned with a crown of thorns and shown healing wounds on her hands. It appears that “Terrifier 3” presents Sienna as the opposite of Art, who seems to represent Satan in this narrative. If this pattern continues, “Terrifier 4” might delve deeper into the supernatural (and possibly Biblical) origins of both characters.

It’s no secret that the Terrifier franchise isn’t well-known for its complex storylines. Instead, it’s gained a reputation as an underground horror success story that has gradually climbed into mainstream popularity. The gruesome violence displayed in these films, which often leaves actor David Thornton Howard on the verge of vomiting, has certainly earned Terrifier the title of a modern slasher movie king. Rumors suggest that Art the Clown, the main villain, may not be from this world at all. With Terrifier 4 set to reveal Art’s origin, fans can expect another thrilling Halloween season treat.

Terrifier and Terrifier 2 are available to stream on Prime Video.
