As an avid gamer with decades of Tetris under my belt, let me say this: Digital Eclipse’s Tetris Forever is shaping up to be the ultimate Tetris experience for us old-school gamers and newcomers alike. The inclusion of Tetris Time Warp, a unique twist on the classic gameplay, has piqued my interest more than a Line Clear ever could!
In the coming weeks, Digital Eclipse’s game called Tetris Forever is set to release. This title promises to deliver the ultimate Tetris experience by incorporating more than a dozen games from the series’ past. Additionally, it introduces a fresh addition, Tetris Time Warp, which allows for local multiplayer and single-player modes. In these modes, players can traverse through various epochs of the classic game, Tetris.
In the most recent behind-the-scenes update, studio director Mike Mika along with lead designer and programmer Jason Cirillo of ‘Tetris Time Warp’ explain how gameplay unfolds. Initially, players engage in contemporary Tetris. Once they successfully clear ten lines, they receive a special Time Warp Tetrimino. When a line is cleared using this unique piece, the player is transported to a different period, each featuring distinct mechanics and visual aesthetics.
As a passionate gamer, I find myself often tasked with a mission to clear four lines within a set timeframe before reappearing. The multiplayer experience is unique in this game, as we’re transported into different epochs and can’t leave until the objective is accomplished. We also don’t engage in any form of combat, instead, it’s all about strategy, particularly defense, which adds a layer of depth to the gameplay.
