As a seasoned gamer with decades of experience under my belt, I can confidently say that the latest update for Tetris Forever is a game-changer! The addition of Welltris, a classic follow-up to the original Tetris, brings a fresh twist to this timeless puzzle game.
In a recent development, Digital Eclipse has given fans of Tetris Forever a delightful surprise with a fresh update! This new version includes the classic MS-DOS game, Welltris, as part of the collection. Additionally, there are enhancements made to Tetris Time Warp, along with other refinements. Excitingly, Digital Eclipse has hinted at adding more games and features in the future, promising an ever-growing collection for fans to enjoy!
Get the details below.
New Game: Welltris (Spectrum Holobyte, MS-DOS)
Welltris, a popular spin-off developed by Alexey Pajitnov, is a cherished version where Tetriminos (or other shapes) descend from all four sides of a well.
Tetris Time Warp
In the latest four-player game, Tetris Time Warp by Digital Eclipse (part of Tetris Forever), all players now have the freedom to customize their control settings individually. This highly anticipated feature, which has been frequently requested by gamers, allows both casual and competitive players to tailor the controls according to their preferences, enhancing their gaming experience.
Other Improvements
Expanded control customization: Now, players can reassign controls for Electronika 60, MS-DOS, and Apple II games on consoles. Previously, this feature was introduced for the PC version in November.
At the initial release, a clash with the Rewind feature resulted in audio problems noticeable during gameplay of certain classic titles on the Nintendo Switch edition of Tetris Forever. To rectify this immediately, the team temporarily disabled the Rewind function for games experiencing audio malfunctions. This action has successfully resolved the issue. The team is now investigating if they can reinstate the Rewind feature in a future update.
What’s Next?
As a devoted admirer, I’m thrilled to share that our mission at Digital Eclipse is to keep enhancing and broadening the horizons of Tetris Forever, by introducing new games and features. The brilliant minds behind Tetris and Digital Eclipse are tirelessly working on expanding the game collection, while also addressing additional feature requests and reported issues. In the near future, they aim to resolve an issue in certain classic games that hinders users from saving or registering high scores, with a fix anticipated in early January.
Jason Cirillo, the primary designer and coder behind “Tetris Time Warp”, is at present engaged in developing an extensive update for the game, with assistance from Digital Eclipse team members. This update includes a range of new features and modes, which have been shaped by player suggestions, and are scheduled for release in early 2025.
The classic game Tetris has been released and can be played right away on the following platforms: PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and personal computers through Steam or GOG.
