Texas Politician Hospitalized, Husband Dead After Grandson Stabbing

A Texas politician is recovering after a terrifying tragedy.

In the recent events, it’s been reported that Bobbie Mitchell, a current Denton County commissioner in Lewisville, has been admitted to the hospital following an alleged assault by her grandson, Mitchell Reinacher. Tragically, this incident resulted in the death of Bobbie’s husband, Fred Mitchell.

At approximately 4 a.m. on April 21st, the police were called due to a reported assault. According to the Lewisville Police Department’s announcement, when they arrived at the scene, they discovered Bobbie, who is 88 years old, and Fred, both suffering from stab wounds.

Fred and Bobbie were both taken to a nearby hospital, where it was confirmed that Fred had passed away, as reported by authorities. The authorities also stated that their grandson, aged 23, who they identified as the suspect, was still present when they arrived at the scene. They further mentioned that he was peacefully apprehended and is now being charged with murder and aggravated assault involving a deadly weapon.

At present, the crime scene is still under investigation, as the Lincoln Police Department’s crime scene team and detectives are diligently gathering and examining evidence while trying to piece together the events that triggered the assault.

As reported by Lewisville Mayor TJ Gilmore, Bobbie has had surgery and is anticipated to make a full recovery. The mayor also requested that everyone grant the family privacy as they go through their healing process.

TopMob News has contacted the Lewisville Police Department seeking their comments, however, we are still waiting for a response.

Since 2000, Bobbie has been a member of the Denton County Commission, a role she took up after serving as Lewisville’s first African American mayor from 1993. She and Fred are proud parents to Darin Mitchell and Rhonda Reinacher, who is Mitchell’s mother. Together, they have nine grandchildren.

Following the news of the attack, many community members expressed their grief and condolences.

Mayor Gilmore expressed that the City is keeping Commissioner Mitchell and her family in their thoughts during this difficult time, as he stated in a statement given to CBS News. We are thankful for the prompt action taken by our Police, Firefighters, and hospital personnel who have provided exceptional care for Commissioner Mitchell.
