Is it possible that the movie “Avengers: Doomsday” might introduce a change for the Black Panther character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe once more? The tragic news of Chadwick Boseman’s passing was deeply felt by many, as T’Challa served as an inspiring symbol of hope and development. In honoring Boseman’s legacy, “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” provided a comforting place to grieve while also setting up Letitia Wright’s character Shuri to take on the role of the Black Panther. However, leaked concept art for “Doomsday” could potentially bring trouble, particularly due to the presence of another character associated with the Black Panther.
In the upcoming “Black Panther” sequel, Shuri is positioned to assume her brother’s role, carrying out the duty passed down by their ancestors. It’s not a question of whether or not Shuri can continue her involvement in the Avengers sequels, as her brother has completed his tenure with the team. However, a recent leak features someone wearing the Black Panther suit adorned with a grand cape and an air of nobility. Regrettably, this figure resembles Chadwick Boseman more than Shuri.

It’s uncertain whether Chadwick Boseman’s T’Challa could reappear using CGI in the upcoming film “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever,” given that recasting was ruled out for the character. However, considering that other movies have used CGI to resurrect actors posthumously, it’s intriguing to ponder if this was a potential option when these concept artworks were created. The use of CGI to bring deceased actors back has been a practice for some time now, with Disney employing it in 2016 for Peter Cushing’s Grand Moff Tarkin in “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story,” which garnered criticism. Resurrecting a dead actor using CGI can be problematic, especially if done solely to elicit a shocking response. It seems somewhat harsh to establish “Wakanda Forever” as a tribute to T’Challa’s legacy only to potentially diminish it in this manner.
If the character isn’t T’Challa, it’s plausible that his father, T’Chaka, portrayed by John Kani, might be the one instead. In this scenario, a newer actor could play the Black Panther, which would avoid controversy because Atandwa Kani is already cast as young T’Chaka. Additionally, there’s room for Sterling K. Brown to reprise his role as N’Jobu if the story takes place in an alternate universe, given that he was originally intended to become the Black Panther.
Regardless, Boseman’s impactful legacy should remain untouched. The dedication poured into his character was awe-inspiring, and the idea of Marvel Studios resurrecting him is disheartening. Moreover, Shuri deserves another turn as the Black Panther; it seems unjust to establish her for the role and then abandon her for a newcomer. Although we are uncertain about this photo’s implications for Doomsday, we can only pray that Marvel chooses wisely when considering recasting the Black Panther.
