That Time Jessica Biel Was Literally Covered In Fake Blood When She Auditioned For The Notebook With Ryan Gosling

Some actors miss out on roles; others do so in incredibly bizarre ways typical in Hollywood. Jessica Biel, for instance, lost the lead role in one of the top films of the 2000s, “The Notebook” (streamable with an Amazon Prime subscription), while immersed in fake blood during a horror movie production, attempting to express young love amidst the chaos. It’s hard to believe such incidents happen, but they do!

Biel recently dropped this bizarre audition bomb during an appearance on interview, which was shared in a post by Entertainment Weekly on their official Instagram account, explaining how she auditioned for the role of Allie, the lead in the now-iconic 2004 Nicholas Sparks book to screen adaptation, while shooting The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (one of the better ranked films of the franchise). As the Chuck and Larry veteran actress remembers it:

In my line of work as a passionate film aficionado, the director and Ryan dropped by my temporary workspace on set. They sought me out for an audition right there. However, this time around, the part wasn’t mine to keep.

In the world of Hollywood, an actress might find herself fleeing from a maniac brandishing a chainsaw one moment, then in her trailer attempting to convincingly feign fainting for Ryan Gosling during an audition for a timeless romantic movie. This tale isn’t just amusing – it’s raw, genuine Hollywood turmoil. And it further enriches the legend of The Notebook, a film already brimming with behind-the-scenes drama (such as rumors of Gosling and McAdams not getting along during production… until they did).

Originally, Jessica Biel was almost chosen for the role of a tearful summer romance icon. However, things took an unexpected turn due to some fabricated gore and the hand of fate. To be honest, it seems improbable that chemistry could ignite when the potential character, Allie, is dressed in bloodied attire and still emotionally shaken from staged trauma. As Biel herself reminisced:

“In the beginning, Jessica Biel was almost cast as the symbol of tearful summer love. But fate, along with some artificial gore, stepped in to change things up. Frankly, it’s hard to imagine sparks flying when the character might wear a bloody costume and be still recovering from staged emotional turmoil.

In my thoughts, it feels as if I recall having blood on me and wearing a white tank top. I removed my cowboy hat, then said something like, “I’d be delighted to fall in love with you. Let’s proceed…” It was quite surreal, almost reminiscent of a movie scene.

Frankly, I believe it’s best for all involved as I can hardly envision another actress portraying Ellie, especially given the intimate scene with Ryan Gosling. To me, this is one of Rachel McAdams’ finest performances, and I wouldn’t want anyone else to take on that role.

Jessica Biel, despite missing out on the opportunity to kiss Ryan Gosling in the rain, has made a significant impact in Hollywood. She debuted with an impactful performance in “The Texas Chainsaw Massacre,” one of the more successful slasher remakes from the early 2000s. Since then, she’s continued to thrive, most recently starring in a compelling lead role in “Candy,” a true crime drama about Candy Montgomery, a Texas housewife who was accused of murdering her neighbor, Betty Gore, in 1980.

In May 2022, the five-episode limited series was released and received positive feedback, even securing an Emmy nomination for its main title design. Starring Jessica Biel, Candy, which can be streamed with a Hulu subscription, demonstrated that she doesn’t require a heartrending romance to display her versatile acting skills.
