The 7 Best Pokemon with Hats in Pokemon Go (that Aren’t Pikachu)

Costumed versions of Pokémon have consistently been a standout feature in the game ‘Pokémon Go’. Over time, Niantic has introduced numerous fun and distinctive ones, making them a significant part of the game’s special events. While most costume variations have primarily been given to Pikachu, developers have also shown affection for other Pokémon like Psyduck and Croagunk. Costumes can range from large bows to glam rock attire, but hats are undoubtedly the best part. There’s just something charming about a Pokémon wearing a big, goofy hat, and here is a list of the top 7 such instances observed in ‘Pokémon Go’ so far.

Snorlax – Not all characters can pull off a cowboy hat, but surprisingly, it suits Snorlax quite well. Despite being a Pokemon famous for eating and napping, Snorlax seems more awake when adorned with a cowboy hat. In fact, his stance suggests he might be quite competitive in a quick-draw contest, contrary to what his size might suggest. Slowpoke also deserves an honorable mention for pulling off the cowboy hat better than expected.

Diglett – It’s unclear who initially thought up Diglett in a bowler hat, but the Ground-type character looks fantastic. The round hat complements Diglett’s spherical head, giving it a resemblance to Dum Dum Dugan minus the ornate mustache. Regrettably, the design loses its charm upon evolution as only one of Dugtrio’s heads gets the bowler hat instead of all three, which feels like an injustice. Shame!

A suitable hat for an individual should reflect their character, and a visor suits Slakoth perfectly. It’s the headgear of someone who rarely ventures out, possibly only for a game of frisbee golf. Given that Slakoth appears more lazy (or perhaps more relaxed) than Snorlax, this accessory fits Slakoth perfectly well.

Wooper – The top-notch Pokemon costumes should bring laughter to anyone, and Wooper donning a ski cap surely does just that. He appears as if he belongs in an ’90s anti-drug public service announcement or as Chris R. from the movie The Room. Moreover, this costume was unveiled during Fashion Week, making it even more amusing. Poor Wooper seems incredibly ridiculous, yet in a way that you can’t help but find endearing. It even seems that Wooper looks better with the hat than without!

Croagunk – It wasn’t until Croagunk donned a backwards hat that people started noticing its resemblance to Fred Durst. Unfortunately, once you’ve seen it, you can’t unsee the similarity. I believe the creators at Niantic deliberately chose to design Croagunk with a backward-facing hat, and I think they did an excellent job. If the hat had been facing forward, Croagunk would likely not have made it onto this list.

This year, Rowlet – the grass-type owl Pokémon, sported a fantastic new Halloween outfit. The mini top hat complements its signature twin leaf bowtie perfectly (even the bowtie got a spooky makeover this season). The entire evolutionary line looks sharp, but costumes usually look best on smaller Pokémons like Rowlet because they stand out more. That certainly applies to our little friend Rowlet!

Psyduck – Over the years, many Pokémon have received winter-themed makeovers, with Wooloo being the latest this season. Out of all, Psyduk might pull off the transformation best due to his Santa hat and scarf ensemble. The new design exudes a comfortable, snug feel and manages to make Psyduck appear slightly less absurd than usual – an attribute not commonly associated with costumed Pokémon.

With Pokemon Go‘s ninth birthday coming up later this year, it’s expected that more costumed Pokemon characters will be introduced in the game. During Niantic’s Fashion Week 2025 event happening later this month, costumes for Cinccino and Minccino will debut, along with returning favorites for Dragonite and Butterfree. Regrettably, these Pokemon won’t wear hats, so for now, our Top 7 list remains unchanged!
