The Accountant 2 Overtakes Jason Statham’s A Working Man on Prime Video Chart

Amazon’s worldwide movie rankings have become more competitive with the arrival of and the action sequel, starring Jon Berthal, which has dethroned Dwayne Johnson and his film, A Working Man, to claim the number one position. To add to this, it has also overtaken Tom Cruise’s 2013 sci-fi action thriller Oblivion from the top of the US chart as well.

It appeared as though there would never be a sequel for the movie The Accountant, given that plans to revive character Christian Wolff, portrayed by Ben Affleck, and his brother Brax (played by Jon Bernthal), had been on hold for nearly a decade. However, it seems that the wait was justified, as fans have praised the sequel The Accountant 2, with its improved critical and audience scores on Rotten Tomatoes. The film currently boasts an impressive 92% Popcornmeter score and a 77% Tomatometer rating from critics. Its success on streaming platforms has only served to intensify the demand for another sequel.

Originally released in cinemas on April 25, “The Accountant 2” managed a respectable, albeit slightly underwhelming $101 million at the global box office. However, since its debut on Prime Video on June 5, it has swiftly claimed dominance over other action movies available on the platform. Following its reign on the streaming chart, “A Working Man,” starring Statham, relinquished its global throne, while Tom Cruise’s “Oblivion,” a decade-old release, slipped to second place after only a few days atop the chart. This latest success is undoubtedly another triumph for the partnership of Affleck and Bernthal, which is likely to endure into “The Accountant 3.

Not only that, but the recent streaming success of “The Accountant 2” has dealt a significant blow to Statham’s latest action hit. In fact, it surpassed it as the highest-grossing non-superhero action movie of the year mere weeks ago. Here’s hoping for better luck in the future, Jason.

Will ‘The Accountant 3’ Happen?

Despite The Accountant 2 not breaking box office records, its performance sparked discussions about a possible third movie in the series. Intriguingly, director Gavin O’Conner has hinted at potential storylines for another film, even suggesting the return of original cast member Anna Kendrick, who was absent from the second installment. Earlier, O’Conner mentioned:

For quite some time, I’ve been pondering over how to handle the third matter. In fact, it’s a question that I’ve been mulling over for many years now.

It’s evident that there is an audience eager for more of Affleck and Bernthal’s brother act, and their extended screen time in The Accountant 2 was the key factor in the sequel’s success. Let’s hope it won’t be another nine years before they collaborate again.

It’s obvious that people want to see more of Affleck and Bernthal together, and their extended appearances in The Accountant 2 were crucial to the sequel’s success. Here’s hoping we don’t have to wait another nine years for them to work together again.
