To stay alive, he must employ the scarce mineral Rapidium to fashion copies of himself, called Alters, so they can evade the approaching sun of this planet, which would incinerate them if they’re exposed to its rays.
These alerts stem from hypothetical results of choices that the real Jan never made, such as standing up to his abusive father – a decision the actual Jan never executed.
Through these actions, he effectively brought into being an alter ego, called the Technician, who remained solely within the realm of a hypothetical parallel universe and did not exist beyond its boundaries in our reality.
