In the final stages of Season 2, “The Apothecary Diaries” is far from wrapping up without a significant event. It’s been several days since Maomao was abducted by Suirei and Shisui. Suirei feigns threats towards Shisui to seize Maomao, but our clever apothecary isn’t fooled and suspects their collusion. The latest episode unveils that Suirei and Shisui are actually stepsisters, yet their bond remains invincible. Shisui is Concubine Loulan, skillfully deceiving everyone while fleeing the Inner Court concurrently. The recent installment also presents Shenmei, Shisui’s mother and wife of current Shi clan head and Prime Minister, Shishou. Since Maomao’s disappearance, Jinshi has been tirelessly searching for clues to reunite her.

In the first season, Suirei played a significant role by instigating many of the enigmatic cases that Maomao resolved. It wasn’t until later that Maomao understood these seemingly disparate events were linked to an attempt on a royal family member’s life. Remarkably, Maomao saved the life of this unbeknownst target, Jinshi. As it turned out, Jinshi was none other than the Empire’s Crown Prince. In the second season, we delved deeper into Jinshi’s hidden past, revealing his imperial status. Suirei had used a rejuvenation potion to flee the Inner Court earlier, but she resurfaced in the second season, now disguised as an Eunuch, as her previous mission remained incomplete.

The Apothecary Diaries Season 2 Is Heading Toward a Major War

Maomao encountered Shenmei with unfortunate circumstances, now she’s detained like a captive. Shenmei has limited her freedom and forced her to concoct an “elixir of immortality” to halt her aging process. Meanwhile, while Maomao is confined within a single room, the Shi Clan is brewing a significant uprising. The weapons used during Jinshi’s assassination attempt were all part of this rebellion plan orchestrated by the Shi Clan as they aimed to seize power from the royal family. Moreover, Lakan encouraged Jinshi to claim his birthright as heir to the throne. The Emperor is unable to depart from the capital and lead the fight against the Shi Clan, so it falls upon Jinshi to safeguard his empire.

It’s clear that Jinshi finds it challenging to embrace his duties and true identity following his past ordeals. Yet, the Shi Clan has been meticulously plotting a rebellion for quite some time, posing a significant danger not just to the Emperor but also the entire empire. Moreover, Jinshi must yet save Maomao, which means he’ll likely follow Lakan’s advice soon. The story is rapidly approaching a pivotal moment, and unfortunately, Maomao finds herself in the thick of the rebellion. Trapped within the stronghold, she faces grave danger, but there’s a chance she can make the best out of this difficult situation and aid her empire.
