The second season of “The Apothecary Diaries” has been one of the most enthralling anime releases this season, and for good reasons – from its characters to its storyline, everything has been executed masterfully, delivering perfectly on all that was set up in Season 1’s conclusion. Regrettably, despite the series enjoying a successful run, these recent honors could not shield it from encountering production delays. As announced by the official X (formerly Twitter) account for “The Apothecary Diaries,” Season 2, Episode 19, originally scheduled to premiere on May 16th, will be postponed a week and air on May 23rd instead.
Despite some potential inconvenience caused by delays, it’s important to note that The Apothecary Diaries has generally avoided major production issues in the past. The dedicated team responsible for the series has been diligent about keeping fans informed, with updates regarding when they can expect more of Maomao and Jinshi. Interestingly, this delay was actually anticipated by OLM, as they had announced on their official website back in late April 2025 that the release date for the episode was being adjusted. Specifically, they mentioned that “The broadcast of ‘The Pharmacist’s Monologue’ originally scheduled for Friday, May 16, 2025, has been postponed due to programming scheduling adjustments. In its place, a special episode of The Apothecary Diaries will air for free on the ABEMA Anime Channel from 11 pm on Friday, May 16th.
Even If Episode 19 Is Delayed, Fans Still Get New Apothecary Diaries Content on May 16
Starting April 23, the regular storyline won’t resume until May 23. To make up for this gap, OLM has announced that instead of Episode 19, a bonus special episode will be available free on the ABEMA Anime Channel. This special features the voice actors of Jinshi, Gaoshun, and Basen – Takeo Otsuka, Katsuyuki Konishi, and Tatsumaru Tachibana respectively – along with newly introduced voice talent joining the cast for the upcoming season arc. On a related note, Volume 16 of the original novel series, The Apothecary Diaries, will be available in Japan on May 30, 2025, offering fans an additional dose of the franchise before summer arrives.
The popular anime series “The Apothecary Diaries” is captivating audiences worldwide with its rapid accumulation of over 250,000 reviews on Crunchyroll, a 4.9 rating, and an 8.84 average score, placing it at #28 in popularity on MyAnimeList. This series’ intriguing mysteries set against a historical backdrop make it irresistibly appealing, keeping viewers from all corners of the anime community enthralled. Although there has been no word yet about a third season, fans can still unravel more mysteries involving Maomao before the current anime season concludes, providing plenty to look forward to until the spring season ends.
