Season 2 of “The Apothecary Diaries” is approaching its end with Maomao being transported to a village belonging to the Shi Clan. The scheming Court Lady Suirei, who plotted against multiple government officials in the previous season and attempted Jinshi’s assassination, resurfaces to carry out her plans. She deceives Shisui by pretending to threaten him while actually kidnapping Maomao. Our clever apothecary was powerless to resist, forcing her departure. Despite Jinshi’s relentless efforts to locate her, he remains unsuccessful even after several days have passed.
Beyond Maomao’s disappearance, it also appears that Concubine Loulan is absent, and her betrayal of the Emperor, a grave offense, points to high treason. Lakan uncovered the uprising led by the Shi Clan, with Shishou, the Prime Minister of Li, at its helm. The Emperor is confined within the Capital, making it incumbent upon Crown Prince Jinshi to bear a significant burden as he leads the empire during this turbulent time. Known as the Moon Prince, Jinshi has kept his true identity concealed until now, but recent events seem set to reveal all. Following the airing of Episode 21 in Season 2, the anime’s official website has released a striking illustration of Jinshi adorned in armor and wielding a sword, hinting at his readiness to embrace his true self.
The Apothecary Diaries Season 2 Is Focusing on Jinshi’s Development
Since his childhood, Jinshi has found it challenging to accept his genuine identity. He harbored doubts about his lineage as a royal, making it all the more arduous for him to fulfill his role as the Crown Prince. Instead, he opted to conceal himself from public view and masquerade as an Eunuch while serving in the Inner Court. Yet, he possesses extraordinary abilities, as evidenced by his prowess in combat, which we’ve witnessed before. His title isn’t merely symbolic; instead, it carries substantial power within the Court. Everyone, except the Emperor, is required to pay him respect.
Even though things had been the way they were, Jinshi hadn’t intended to reveal himself as Prince of the Moon until quite recently. Lakan provided him the necessary encouragement, but Jinshi understood that it was for Maomao and his own sake. Thus, Jinshi the Eunuch comes to an end, as he now embarks on living as Ka Zuigetsu, the name he received at birth. In the most recent episode, Jinshi has departed from the Court with his supporters and troops.
Lakan and Lahan help him devise a plan to seize control of the Shi Clan’s fortress, a challenging task given that they have been secretly plotting a rebellion for years and possess advanced weaponry. What they didn’t foresee was that the daughters of the Shi Clan had clandestinely allied themselves with them. The conflict has already started, and it’s just a question of when they will apprehend the leader of the Shi Clan, Shenmei, along with his wife. After a long time apart, Jinshi and Maomao reconnect, and she discovers his true persona. She also uncovers the fact that he is no longer recognized as the Crown Prince due to Councubine Gyokuyou giving birth to another prince.
