The Batman: "Another Television Exploration" Coming After The Penguin

As a die-hard fan of The Batman, I couldn’t be more excited about the expansion of this captivating universe! The success of Robert Pattinson’s portrayal of the Dark Knight has opened the door for even more compelling stories to be told. The announcement of The Penguin series is just the beginning – there are more spin-offs in development, and I can hardly contain my enthusiasm!

The world of “The Batman” is taking off, following the massive success of the new version starring Robert Pattinson. Warner Bros. Discovery has fully committed to this fresh interpretation of the caped crusader. They’ve ordered a spin-off series about “The Penguin,” which will continue the storyline from “The Batman” and explore Gotham’s criminal underworld through Colin Farrell’s character, Oswald Cobblepot. This upcoming show will incorporate aspects of abandoned projects like “Arkham Asylum” and “Gotham PD,” which were also set in the universe of “The Batman.”

More Spin-Offs Set in The Batman World in Development

Even though the bat-signal shines on just The Penguin for now, more stories are on the way.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Dylan Clark, executive producer of “The Penguin,” hinted at a new TV project linked to the “Batman” universe in development.

Clark explained, “We’re examining the entire world in relation to Batman’s identity. This includes examining his adversaries, dealing with the crime-ridden city, and discovering the ideal locations for exploration.”

Clark frequently collaborates with Matt Reeves, the creative force behind “The Batman” series. They initially joined forces on “Dawn of the Planet of the Apes” in 2014 and subsequently worked together on “War for the Planet of the Apes” in 2017 and “The Batman” set to release in 2022.

Regarding the upcoming HBO project related to “television exploration,” hints can be found in Clark’s statements and past wishes from HBO executives. After abandoning plans for “Arkham Asylum” and “Gotham PD,” HBO is now focusing on main Batman characters, suggesting that future projects will probably star well-known comic book figures. With Clark expressing interest in Gotham’s villains, it’s likely that the next spin-off will focus on a popular and prominent villain, similar to “The Penguin.”

Based on the ending of “The Batman” (2022), potential candidates for a spin-off series are The Riddler, Joker, and Catwoman. Given that The Riddler was recently featured in this film and The Joker has already been portrayed in Joaquin Phoenix’s standalone franchise, the most likely option seems to be Catwoman, especially with Zoë Kravitz cast in the role. This prospect aligns with HBO’s requirements and fits well within Reeves’ team’s plans. However, the introduction of new characters in “The Batman Part II” might change this prediction, as these newcomers could potentially merit their own series based on the events following the sequel.

Max will start showing “The Penguin” on September 8th. Meanwhile, production for “The Batman Part II” is predicted to begin in the year 2025.
