As a gamer who has grown up watching and admiring the Batman universe, I must say that Zoe Kravitz‘s portrayal of Selina Kyle (Catwoman) in The Batman was nothing short of phenomenal. Her character’s development from a reserved woman finding her power to an authoritative figure ready to stir chaos in Gotham City was captivating.
Actress Zoe Kravitz, known for her role as Catwoman in “The Batman”, shared her hopes for Selina Kyle’s development in the sequel. In a conversation with Collider before the release of “Blink Twice”, she discussed the future of Catwoman in Matt Reeves’ universe. Kravitz hinted at “The Batman: Part II” and mentioned that the origin story for Catwoman has been established, allowing her character to cause chaos in Gotham City and potentially re-encounter Robert Pattinson’s Batman. In the next installment, expect a more assertive portrayal of Selina Kyle when she hops on her motorcycle again. Although Kravitz’s character was somewhat reserved previously, this time around, she might display increased confidence, possibly even ruffling Batman’s feathers.
Kravitz discusses the character of Selina in the movie “The Batman”. She explains that the story is an origin tale for Selina, implying there’s plenty more to discover. The role portrays a woman finding her strength and learning to enjoy using it, with the hope that this journey will prove exciting when further explored.
Selina Kyle Is Such An Iconic Role
Zoe Kravitz, the actress playing Batman, acknowledges that donning those ears isn’t for everyone who’s easily intimidated. She discussed her transformation into Selina Kyle in “The Art of The Batman”. Critics were somewhat perplexed by her casting, but it was the internal pressure to emulate the legendary women who previously wore the mask that truly weighed on her.
“When I learned I had landed this role, I was utterly astonished, and when the news broke, I’ve never received more phone calls and text messages, not even on my birthday, since then. That moment, it finally sank in – this isn’t just a big deal for me, but for everyone. Eartha Kitt, Michelle Pfeiffer, Halle Berry, and now me. It’s an incredible honor to be part of such an esteemed group.” – Kravitz
At times, I found it necessary to distance myself from the role, as the expectation for it to become iconic or for me to measure up against other remarkable actresses was potentially harmful. Given that this story is distinctively personal, I aimed for it to feel deeply rooted in character development and internal motivation, rather than external influences. In essence, while the character’s appearance and movements are significant, the focus should be on her spirit. I wanted to avoid getting entangled in creating something iconic or sensual, instead, I desired it to be a narrative about a woman who endured a challenging life and is seeking her next path.
