The crime drama set in Morecambe last aired for its fourth series in 2023, and a fifth season was announced shortly afterward. However, it has taken a couple of years for the new season to finally materialize.

For the upcoming season, Marsha Thomason, who assumed the leading role from Morven Christie in season 3 of 2022, is set to reprise her character as DS Jenn Townsend, the family liaison officer. She will be back on duty, facing another gruesome crime to solve.

Additionally, joining the cast for the upcoming season are Daniel Ryan reprising his role as DI Anthony ‘Tony’ Manning, Erin Shanagher returning as DS Karen Hobson, and Andrew Dowbiggin making a comeback as DS James Clarke.

As a movie enthusiast, let me share my thoughts on the star-studded cast that graces our screens in this captivating film. Joining the lineup are the exceptional talents of Olwen May, famously known for her role in Happy Valley, and Tara Lynne O’Neill, who stole our hearts in The Full Monty.

Moreover, we have some familiar faces returning to enrich the narrative. Barry Sloane reprises his role as Chris Fischer, while Georgia Scholes once again brings Erin, his daughter, to life. And let’s not forget David Carpenter and Emme Hayes, who portray Conor and Maddie, Jenn’s children, adding depth to the storyline.

In the latest episode, a university student named Hannah, aged 23, is discovered dead at the docks. This new case falls upon Morecambe’s MIU team. As Jenn resumes work after losing her father, she sets aside her personal sorrow to help resolve the disagreements within Hannah’s family.

As a dedicated movie buff, I’m diving headfirst into this intriguing mystery. The tension is palpable as we delve further into the case, unearthing concealed relationships and clandestine connections among the students. The atmosphere on campus has become electric with simmering anger.

The story progresses: “As the situation becomes more intricate, the team unravels the complex aspects of Hannah’s life, revealing hidden secrets. Meanwhile, Jenn is faced with both personal and work-related challenges as she tirelessly works to crack the case, deals with her own grief, and reconnects with her family.

The actors appearing as guests in the upcoming series are: Leanne Best (from The Walk-In and Cold Feet), Neil Maskell (Hijack and Kill List), David Troughton (A Very Peculiar Practice and New Tricks), Stephen Wight (Screw and I May Destroy You) and Ceallach Spellman (Better and White Lines).

In a new development, the TV show is jointly created and scripted by Daragh Carville. Notably, the initial three episodes of this fresh season are going to be helmed by Shaun Evans, an accomplished actor recognized for his work in Endeavour and Vigil.
