This weekend, we’re headed back to Morecambe as a new season of The Bay is about to air on our TV screens!
In this show, the main character, DS Jenn Townsend played by Marsha Thomason, works as a family liaison officer in Morecambe Bay. Alongside her committed MIU team, she tackles a startling crime every season.
In Season 5, events take on a somber tone as Jenn resumes work following the demise of her father. Her feelings are raw, and there’s still a palpable tension between her and her mother Anne (Suzanne Packer).
In typical fashion, Jenn immerses herself into her work during this period, with the MIU focusing on the murder case of university student Hannah. Found near the docks, Hannah’s death leads the team not only to support Hannah’s family but also to delve into her personal life and uncover some concealed secrets.
He stated that it felt more heartfelt as she was integrated within the family, not posing overtly probing questions but rather learning about them and the victim in a much more emotionally intimate manner.

The Bay season 5 release date
The Bay season 5 will be returning to our screens on Sunday 2nd March at 9pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
During the renewal period, the head of ITV drama, Polly Hill, expressed her joy by saying: “We’re thrilled to come back to Morecambe for another installment of The Bay.
ITV’s series has become an impressive tale of triumph, and we extend our gratitude to Catherine Oldfield, Daragh Carville, and the entire crew at Tall Story Pictures for consistently producing captivating narratives and memorable characters.

The Bay season 5 cast
Just like past seasons, a fresh wave of guest stars has been enlisted for season 5 of The Bay, including some well-known television personalities.
This time around, Thomason reappears as Jenn, accompanied by her main MIU team members. However, this season is unique as it doesn’t feature Thomas Law anymore, having moved back to EastEnders. In his stead, a fresh face, Olwen May, has joined the cast, portraying DC Louise ‘Lou’ McClaren – a veteran detective temporarily assigned from Lancaster.

What is The Bay season 5 about?
In The Bay season 5, the mystery unit in Morecambe takes on a new case when a 23-year-old university student named Hannah is found dead at the docks. Despite her own grief following her father’s passing, Jenn decides to put her feelings aside and help resolve the disagreements within Hannah’s family.
As the importance of the investigation increases, Jenn and her team delve further into the mystery, unmasking concealed relationships and clandestine alliances. Simultaneously, the student body grows increasingly agitated.
As the level of complexity rises, the team gradually uncovers the intricate aspects of Hannah’s existence along with its hidden secrets.
