I’m thrilled to be part of the exciting collaboration between the stars of “The Bear” and “The White Lotus,” joining forces for a new Apple TV+ series focusing on former child actors, created by one of its talented stars. Apple TV+’s original series have truly made their mark on the streaming world, with captivating shows like the suspenseful “Severance” and the thought-provoking “Dark Matter.” Yet, it’s not just dramas that shine on this platform; comedic gems like the engaging “Shrinking” and the eagerly anticipated fourth season of “Ted Lasso” have also found a home here.
Currently, Deadline announces that Ayo Edebiri from The Bear and Will Sharpe from The White Lotus are collaborating on a show called Prodigies for Apple TV+. This series, created by Sharpe and executive produced by Edebiri, is a romantic comedy. It revolves around Didi (played by Edebiri) and Ren (portrayed by Sharpe), two ex-child actors who have been together since their youth. They’re now doubting if their current lives meet up to the expectations they had as youngsters, including questioning the state of their relationship after being together for so long.
What Prodigies Means For Apple TV+
Both Stars Are Perfect Given Their Filmmaking Histories
Sharpe is well-versed in comedy, having portrayed Ethan Speller in the cast of “The White Lotus” season 2, and slated to headline the forthcoming Netflix romantic comedy series “Too Much.” With a diverse background in filmmaking, he has penned and directed comedic films such as “Black Pond,” “The Darkest Universe,” and “The Electrical Life of Louis Wain.” His television writing credits include the dark comedies “Flowers” and “Landscapers,” demonstrating his knack for crafting humorous narratives on both large and small screens.
Regarding Edebiri, she’ll continue her role as Sydney in season 4 of “The Bear”, but she’s also slated to feature in the comedy-drama film titled “Ella McCay”. Additionally, she lends her voice to April O’Neil in “Tales of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles”. Recently, she’s delved into thriller roles as well, such as the upcoming films “Opus” set for release in March 2025 and “After the Hunt”. Both actors are renowned for their work in comedy and drama, making their collaboration on “Prodigies” an exciting mix of diverse talents.
Our Take On Sharpe & Edebiri’s Prodigies
An Interesting Take On The Rom-Com Genre
With their extensive acting backgrounds, Edebiri and Sharpe are expected to deliver a captivating mix of humor and drama in the show “Prodigies“. The plot is an interesting twist on the romantic comedy genre, as it delves into a couple who have spent their entire lives together and are now re-evaluating their relationship. It’s uncertain what will come from their unique approach, but given Sharpe’s penchant for dark comedy, the series may challenge the boundaries of the genre’s conventions.
