The Best Yakuza Game’s Getting a Director’s Cut, And It Could Come to PS5 and PS4 Later

Update [Thu 3rd Apr 2025, 4:45am]: According to recent updates from Nintendo, there’s a possibility that the just-revealed Yakuza 0: Director’s Cut might be playable on PS5 in the future.

According to a statement in a press release by the creators of Mario, the extended tale of Kazuma Kiryu’s origins will debut exclusively on Nintendo Switch 2 initially. This suggests that other multi-format releases are planned for a later date.

It’s uncertain if Sega plans to include the new content in the current versions of the game, or simply release a completely new version. Regardless, it seems that the game will become available for PlayStation platforms at some point.

Many people, including me, consider Yakuza 0 as the top entry in Sega’s long-running series. So, you can imagine our enthusiasm when we heard that a Director’s Cut of this beloved crime drama is coming out this summer.

For fans of PlayStation, there’s a significant challenge as the Director’s Cut of Yakuza 0 is exclusive to the Nintendo Switch 2.

A real punch to the stomach, given how this game version offers unique, never-before-seen cinematics and an entirely novel, four-player multiplayer mode titled ‘Red Light Raid.’ Now say that quickly!

Frankly speaking, it’s hard for us to envision this game as an absolute must-play, yet the developers at RGG Studio claim it has up to 60 playable characters that can be unlocked. We’re eager to discover its true nature and find out what makes it unique.

By the way, it also comes with an English dub, but true fans would prefer the original Japanese voices over anything else when playing a Yakuza game.

Are you bummed out that Yakuza 0 Director’s Cut won’t release on PS5 or PS4? Hang tight, as it’s likely we’ll see a remake of Yakuza 0 for PS6 in the future comments!
