The Black Phone 2 Adds Horror Veteran to Cast

As a seasoned gamer with an affinity for horror films, I must say that the addition of Demián Bichir to the cast of “The Black Phone 2” has me absolutely thrilled! With his extensive background in the genre and his knack for delivering chilling performances, he’s sure to bring a new level of terror to the silver screen.

The upcoming sequel to the 2021 horror hit, “The Black Phone,” titled “The Black Phone 2,” has brought on board a seasoned horror actor, Demián Bichir, as per Deadline’s report. As of now, specific details about his character and the movie plot remain undisclosed. However, it is confirmed that Scott Derrickson will be back to direct, with C. Robert Cargill co-writing the script alongside him – both of whom were involved in the original film as well. The original cast members, Ethan Hawke, Mason Thames, Madeleine McGraw, Jeremy Davies, and Miguel Mora, are also expected to reprise their roles. “The Black Phone 2” is scheduled for release on October 17, 2025.

Bichir is no stranger to horror projects. The actor starred in television’s Let the Right One In as well as appeared in 2020’s The Grudge, 2018’s The Nun, and 2017’s Alien: Covenant. Outside of his work in horror, Bichir has an extensive filmography and was even nominated for an Academy Award for his role as an undocumented immigrant gardener in 2011’s A Better Life.

In a nutshell, “The Black Phone,” originally penned by Joe Hill, unfolds the tale of Finley, a 13-year-old boy, who finds himself kidnapped and confined in a basement by a sinister figure known as The Grabber. A peculiar phone on the wall begins to ring, revealing that its mysterious callers are the ghostly voices of the killer’s past victims. They strive to prevent Finley from meeting their tragic end.

2022 saw some fantastic discussions revolving around the potential sequel to the film. Upon catching sight of the mask, designed by Tom Savini and Jason Baker, I immediately thought, “If this movie succeeds, there will be a sequel,” due to the mask’s powerful symbolism. The mask is reminiscent of Freddy Krueger’s glove or Michael Myers’ mask – iconic imagery that lingers in people’s nightmares. It’s no secret that characters like Jason Voorhees, Freddy Krueger, Frankenstein, and Dracula never truly stay dead; they always find a way to return for more sequels, even threequels.

He went on to say, “There have been discussions regarding a follow-up that won’t be disappointing. A sequel that maintains the original’s quality, doesn’t water it down, remains chilling and intense, and seems genuine. These talks have been quite promising. However, if I were to share specifics, Scott and Cargill might confine me in the basement as depicted in the film, and there’d be no way to call for help because, as you recall, the phone doesn’t work.” In simpler terms, he’s indicating that while discussions about a potential sequel are encouraging, he won’t reveal specific details due to potential consequences similar to those experienced by characters in the movie.

The Black Phone 2 is set to open in theaters October 17, 2025.
