The Boy and the Gray Heron
Hayao Miyazaki, co-founder of Studio Ghibli, has returned after a decade with his first hand-drawn animated feature film. This original story, both written and directed by him, also produced by Toshio Suzuki, boasts music from longtime collaborator Joe Hisaishi. The theme song for the movie is “Spinning Globe,” penned and performed by popular J-pop artist Kenshi Yonezu.
As a gamer putting my gaming controller down for a moment, let me share some exciting news from the world of anime. Speaking as one of the creators behind Studio Ghibli, Toshio Suzuki expressed his heartfelt joy over our recent Oscar win for The Boy and the Heron. It’s an incredible honor to be recognized in this way, and I couldn’t be prouder of our team and their unwavering dedication to storytelling.
In his role as producer on the animated film “The Boy and the Heron”, Suzuki was deeply honored to win the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature. He would like to extend his heartfelt thanks to the Academy, as well as everyone who contributed to the production of this movie, and all those who worked tirelessly to distribute it globally.
The movie started off with Director Hayao Miyazaki rescinding his retirement decision, followed by seven years of hard work on its creation. Since Hayao Miyazaki’s last film, “The Wind Rises,” a decade has passed and the film industry landscape has significantly changed. Creating this movie was no easy feat, but I am thankful that it has been seen by countless individuals worldwide and received such recognition. As both Hayao Miyazaki and I have grown older, receiving this award at my age fills me with gratitude, serving as motivation to work even harder in the future.
