The Boys Co-Creator Garth Ennis Among Founders of New Ninth Circle Horror Imprint

As a seasoned gamer and comic book enthusiast with a soft spot for horror genres, I can’t help but feel a rush of anticipation upon hearing about the new Ninth Circle imprint at Image Comics. With Garth Ennis, the co-creator of The Boys, leading the charge, it seems like we’re in for a wild ride.

Garth Ennis, who co-created the popular comic book series “The Boys” in collaboration with artist Darick Robertson, has teamed up again to establish a new horror imprint called Ninth Circle, which will be published by Image Comics. The upcoming title under this imprint is “Freddie The Fix,” written by Ennis and illustrated by Mike Perkins, scheduled for release on December 11th.

The deadline for Ninth Circle’s formation includes Adam Glass (The Equalizer showrunner), Marguerite Bennett (DC’s Bombshells), Joe Pruett (Negative Burn), and Ram V (The Many Deaths of Laila Starr) as founders, along with Michael Bogner from ABGO and David Stone from TFC Management as part of the leadership team. It appears that certain titles under Ninth Circle may be adapted for various forms of media, given that Kimberly Steward (Manchester By The Sea, Suspiria) of K Period Media is a main investor in the company. This trend has arisen following the success of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with companies seeking to acquire creator-owned properties in their search for the next big hit.

As per the creators, Ninth Circle titles delve into every shadowy corner of the horror genre, encompassing the supernatural and diabolic, slasher films, monstrous creatures, psychological thrillers, and a touch of humor. These spine-tingling tales are brought to life directly from the abyssal depths of Hell.

What is Freddie The Fix about?

Freddie The Fix is marketed as a show with a mix of dark humor and horror that chronicles the adventures of Freddie, a problem solver in Hollywood who deals with the aftermath caused by some rather unusual celebrities – werewolves, vampires, zombies, aliens, bogeymen, predators, and other assorted peculiarities.

Ennis shared, “I’ve had a long-standing passion for horror,” expressing his excitement about ‘Freddie the Fix’, he aims to startle, excite, and amuse our audience (while sprinkling in a couple of chuckles here and there as well).

As an avid reader, I can’t wait to dive into the chilling world of Ninth Circle books! Known for their standalone stories of terror, these double-sized issues are released monthly. I’m thrilled to see some familiar names joining the lineup, such as Marguerite Bennett and Jill Thompson, who have worked on Neil Gaiman’s Sandman and the Scary Godmother series, among others. Joe Pruett and Butch Guice, known for their work on The Flash, Winter Soldier, Birds of Prey, are also part of the roster. Not to forget Glass with art by Bernard Chang, whose past works include X-Men, Deadpool, Superman, and more. More creators will be announced at a later date, making this an even more exciting venture!

The Ninth Circle team is excited about delving into the horror genre in various ways,” Glass stated. “Garth’s knack for creating unique universes, coupled with Ram, Marguerite, and Joe’s audacious approach to pushing the limits of storytelling, will surely make our tales unforgettable. We can hardly wait to present these stories to eager fans.
