Over the last seven days, significant portions of the Los Angeles region have been affected by multiple wildfires, resulting in fatalities and extensive property damage. The Palisades Fire and Eaton Fire are still blazing, making it difficult to ascertain the total extent of the destruction at this point. However, some who have endured complete loss are sharing their stories – among them Eric Kripke, creator of television shows like “The Boys” and “Supernatural”. On Instagram, Kripke informed followers that while he, his family, and pets are safe, they unfortunately lost their home and possessions in the fire last week. He posted a picture of the ruins of his house as part of this update.
Last week, Kripke shared that our home in the Palisades was destroyed by fire. Fortunately, my family and pets are safe, for which I am grateful. However, everything else was reduced to ashes. My deepest appreciation goes out to the firefighters and first responders – you are true heroes. Many people and businesses require immediate assistance right now; if you can, please consider donating. My heart aches for my beloved community, which I fear will never be the same. Let’s come together in support during this difficult time.
In the chaos of evacuating, I searched for essential items like passports and birth certificates. It wasn’t until later, when everything was lost, that I realized: I didn’t take the sentimental items. Photos of my Dad, crafts made by my kids, journals from my teenage years, and cherished toys – these are things that can never be replaced.
I urge everyone to make a list of their valued possessions – not based on monetary value but emotional worth. Take as many with you as possible when leaving home. After people and pets, these treasured items should be prioritized. Stay safe, everyone.
Since the 7th of January, the Palisades Fire has been blazing in the Santa Monica Mountains of Los Angeles County. By the 13th of January, it had expanded to over 23,000 acres in the Pacific Palisades area of Los Angeles and nearby Malibu, taking at least nine lives. Over 5,000 buildings, including homes and businesses, have been leveled, and more than 100,000 people have been forced to evacuate. Similarly, the Eaton Fire has been raging since the same date, consuming over 14,000 acres and destroying more than 7,000 structures, with at least 17 lives lost.
It’s not just Kripke who has suffered loss in the wildfires; artists like Andrew C. Robinson and writers such as Steve T. Seagle, known for their work on various comic book titles, have also lost their homes due to the Eaton Fire. Writers J.P. Nickel of The Ark series and Jennifer May Nickel, costume designer for shows like Gotham Knights and Legacies, have faced a similar fate. Regrettably, these creators are among the many individuals grappling with the aftermath of this tragic situation. At present, the Palisades Fire is at 19% containment, while the Eaton Fire stands at 45%.
