As a longtime fan of comic books and superhero stories, I have been eagerly anticipating each new season of “The Boys.” Having followed the original comic book series for years, I can confidently say that the Amazon Prime Video adaptation has done an exceptional job at bringing these dark and gritty characters to life.
The Boys season 4 has now landed on Prime Video in full.
An eight-part television show, modeled after the source comic, focuses on a band of anti-heroes determined to bring down misusing superheroes with corrupt powers.
Since its premiere on screens in 2019, this program has given rise to numerous offshoots situated in the same world. Among them are “Diabolical,” an animated series that started airing in March 2022, and “Gen V,” which was released in September 2023.
As a movie buff, I’m thrilled to be part of the experience when Season 4 brings back familiar faces from earlier seasons. Not only that, but we get to meet some fresh newcomers! Among them are two exciting additions to the Seven: Sister Sage and Firecracker.
In the meantime, before we receive updates on the fifth installment and Gen V’s second round, here is a recap of what to expect from The Boys season 4.
The Boys season 4 release date
Eight episodes of The Boys season 4 have been released on Prime Video, which you can now stream in their entirety. The final episode aired on July 18th.
1. The initial three episodes of the show aired on Thursday, June 13th, followed by new episodes being released every week thereafter.
1. Following the typical style of Billy Butcher, the launch date for the Prime Video series was previously announced this year, accompanied by an explicit poster that read: “Time to bring out the celebratory confetti.”
On June 10, 2022, Amazon Prime Video announced the renewal of The Boys for a fourth season, coming only a week after the third season’s debut received positive criticism and high viewer interaction.
Currently, the production for #TheBoys Season 4 has officially wrapped up. I’m extremely thankful and incredibly proud of our talented cast and crew. This might just be our finest work yet! Can’t wait to share it with everyone. Mark your calendars for June 13 on @PrimeVideo. Stay tuned via @TheBoysTV #theboystv
— Eric Kripke (@therealKripke) April 10, 2024
Vernon Sanders, the head of global television at Amazon Studios, expressed his excitement back then: “Right from our initial talks with Eric Kripke and his team about The Boys’ third season, it became clear that the show was pushing boundaries even further – an impressive achievement given the immense success of the Emmy-nominated second season.”
I’d like to point out that “The Boys” consistently challenges narrative norms, all the while delivering an unending dose of entertainment. It skillfully navigates the delicate balance of social critique, offering commentary that resonates deeply with our current times.
“The world portrayed in this series, with its distinctive style, boasts an impressive international audience, as evidenced by the large viewership during its premiere weekend.”
1. It’s been confirmed that the series will come back for a fifth and final season. Nevertheless, the main show is wrapping up, but its spin-off, Gen V, is set to carry on, and other spin-offs may be developed as well.
How many episodes are in The Boys season 4?
There are eight episodes in The Boys season 4.
That’s exactly what we would have expected, as it’s the same length as all three previous seasons.
The show will be released in episodes, with a new episode premiering each week starting on June 13th, and continuing until the final episode on July 18th.

- Erin Moriarty as Annie/Starlight
- Laz Alonso as Mother’s Milk
- Karen Fukuhara as Kimiko
- Tomer Capone as Serge/Frenchie

- Cameron Crovetti as Ryan
- Olivia Morandin as Zoe Neuman
- Jim Beaver as Robert “Bob” Singe

We also have some new faces to welcome, including:
- Susan Heyward as Sister Sage
- Valorie Curry as Firecracker
- Jeffrey Dean Morgan as Joe Kessler
- Rosemarie DeWitt as Daphne Campbell
- Rob Benedict as Splinter
- Elliot Knight as Colin Hauser
1. Certainly, The Boys simply wouldn’t feel the same without Jack Quaid as Hughie and Karl Urban portraying Billy Butcher. However, Butcher has a challenge ahead in making amends with his former allies, given his past actions.
1. The previews offer a glimpse into the past relationship between Jeffrey Dean Morgan’s character, Joe Kessler, and Butcher, suggesting they have known each other for quite some time.
In the upcoming season, we’ll see many familiar characters returning. Among them are Erin Moriarty as Starlight, who made a comeback in the trailer after retiring her cape last season. Karen Fukuhara portrays Kimiko, and Tomer Capon plays Serge/Frenchie. All of them will join Laz Alonso’s Mother’s Milk to form the complete gang.
As a dedicated movie lover, I’m excitedly anticipating the fourth season of The Boys, where Cameron Crovetti, portraying Homelander’s son Ryan, will assume a larger role. In fact, he’s been upgraded from a recurring character to a series regular, hinting at a more substantial storyline for him this time around.
In an interview with Variety, Kripke discussed the significance of Ryan in the story, explaining, “Ryan plays a crucial role since he’s the offspring of both Becca and Homelander, making him a key character in our narrative.”
“If Butcher can figure out how to get his s**t together and get the kid back, that could be the single best weapon they have against Homelander. But vice versa. If Homelander wins the kid over, that’s apocalyptic, because then there’s two Homelanders.”
1. Additionally, we’ll witness the ongoing story of Colby Minifie’s Ashley Barrett, and although no decisions have been made, we haven’t ruled out further appearances from characters introduced in Gen V. Could there be an encounter between Hughie and Marie Moreau (Jaz Sinclair)? We really hope so!
Simultaneously, Nathan Mitchell, who originally portrayed Black Noir, is expected to reappear despite the complexities and unexpected developments in his character’s narrative.
Kripke hinted that Mitchell will portray a fresh character following the startling revelations in the season 3 trailer. In conversation with EW, he reminisced about telling him, saying, “I believe I actually said something similar to, ‘Alright, so I’m going to say something and your heart will skip a beat, but then I’ll say something else and you’ll realize everything is alright.'”
Additionally, we have some exciting newcomers to anticipate! Joining our cast are Susan Heyward, who will portray Sister Sage as a new super, and Valorie Curry, who will take on the role of Firecracker. Furthermore, Rosemarie DeWitt has been added to the lineup, playing the part of Daphne, Hughie’s mother.
The Boys season 4 plot
1. “As the world hangs in the balance, Victoria Neuman finds herself nearer than ever to the White House, while Homelander tightens his grip on power.”
A butcher named Butcher, facing the end of his life, has suffered twin tragedies: the loss of Becca’s son and his dismissal as The Boys’ leader. Frustrated by his deceit, the team is at wits’ end with him. With the world hanging in the balance, they must set aside their differences and collaborate to save it before it’s too late.
So… no pressure.
1. In the preview, we got a sneak peek at Jeffrey Dean Morgan’s role, observed Starlight returning to action since she retired her cape, and encountered a bone-chilling scene showing Homelander soaked in blood.
In the final episode of Season 1 in Gen V, we got a few clues about what may happen next. Homelander’s (Antony Starr) brief appearance gave us the most significant hint about potential crossovers.
Sam and Cate’s heroic actions in the final episode made it clear they’d make great assets to Homelander’s team and, with Marie now out of the picture, fans could see them join the Seven in season 4, while the Gen V post-credits scene saw Billy Butcher roaming the woods…
He shared that the storylines should clash dramatically towards the end of this season. From this collision, fresh storylines will emerge, which we’ll develop in season 4.
Jessie T Usher, the actor portraying the speedster A-Train in the superhero series, commented that the Seven as a group were in a worse state than at the start of the third season. This implies that the remaining members may exhibit erratic actions in the upcoming events.
1. It’s expected that The Boys season 4 will blend storylines from the comics along with fresh concepts drawn from current news events.
In July 2022, Karl Urban shared with Collider that he himself wasn’t certain about the details of the upcoming season, but he was absolutely positive that it would be incredibly mind-blowing or extraordinarily exciting.
As a passionate cinema enthusiast, I find myself only two months removed from the commencement of filming, and I must confess, I’m clueless about what lies ahead. That should give you an idea of the level of uncertainty surrounding this project, but yes, we’re getting close…
1. “I prefer letting them manage their own writing journey without interruptions like ‘What’s next?’ from others. It’s an exciting anticipation because they never fail to surprise me with outlandish ideas. So yes, I’m looking forward to the enjoyable chaos that will ensue.”
He argued: “Each episode ought to have a distinct storyline. I can’t help but grow frustrated with the self-proclaimed creators of streaming series who claim, ‘In reality, what we’re producing is an eight-episode movie.’ It feels like, ‘Take a hike, buddy.'” (Note: The last sentence has been toned down to maintain a more respectful tone.)
1. In our line of work, we produce television content. Each part is referred to as an episode, and my aim is to ensure each episode has a clear start, development, and conclusion. Similarly, I strive for the entire season to have a distinct beginning, progression, and ending too.
Kripke stated, “Some individuals don’t find any conclusion within their individual episodes, nor do they have conclusions at the end of their entire season. They ask for a commitment of 16 hours from you before there is any resolution – and I personally find that absurd.”
