The Boys Season 5 Confirms One Star Is Returning (Despite Rumored Exit)

As a devoted fan who has been following The Boys since its inception, I can’t help but feel a mix of anticipation and trepidation as we approach the final season. The confirmation that A-Train will be returning is certainly a welcome surprise, given the cliffhanger at the end of season 4 that left many of us wondering if he had truly escaped Vought’s grasp for good.

In contrast to the suspenseful ending in season 4 finale of Amazon’s “The Boys,” it has been verified by one actor that he will make an unforeseen comeback for the upcoming season. Jessie T. Usher (A-Train) shared a cast photo on Instagram, indicating his return for the remaining episodes. In the previous season, A-Train teamed up with The Boys to confront Homelander, playing a double agent within Vought. The last episode hinted that he removed his tracking device and abandoned The Seven, fueling rumors that he might have departed from the series.

The official Vought International account on social media hinted at A-Train’s possible absence by posting a photo of him with the caption “BREAKING: A-Train Begins Top Secret Undercover Operation“. They stated that he had been sent abroad for an unspecified task, leading fans to wonder if Usher’s character might not reappear. However, it’s unlikely that the show would conclude without A-Train.

In the end, circumstances in Season 4 made it necessary for A-Train to battle fellow members of The Seven, shielding The Boys from The Deep (Chace Crawford) and Black Noir (Nathan Mitchell). This confrontation led Homelander to believe that he was the informant all along. In a bid to devise an escape plan, A-Train collaborated with Vought’s Ashley (Colby Minifie). However, Ashley opted to remain with the company and use Compound V for defense, whereas A-Train decided to flee with his family to avoid the control of The Seven.

After earning a degree from Godolkin University, A-Train joined The Seven, but his superhero career was marred by the misuse of Compound V and his ego inflating due to fame. Betrayal within The Seven eventually led A-Train to join The Boys throughout the series. In the finale of season 4, most of The Boys were captured by Vought, leaving Hughie and others in a tough spot. However, A-Train’s return could provide a glimmer of hope for them. Yet, his comeback might also signal something more ominous, as Homelander will likely seek revenge on him for leaking information to Butcher.

In the final season, it’s been confirmed that Jessie T. Usher reprises his role as A-Train, but there are no official announcements yet about Queen Maeve’s involvement. After being disenchanted with Vought and Homelander, Maeve fled with her girlfriend following public belief that she perished while taking down Soldier Boy. Contrastingly, Soldier Boy will be back as a main character next season.

Season 5 has yet to provide an official summary, but it’s expected to delve into the aftermath of Homelander’s grip on both Vought and the U.S. government. Moreover, Billy the Butcher was last seen departing with the sole remaining dose of the super-killing serum and his enhanced abilities. Since this is the final season, a fierce confrontation between Homelander and Butcher seems inevitable.

In the final season of “The Boys”, we’ll see the return of Antony Starr, Chace Crawford, Nathan Mitchell, Tomer Capone, Karen Fukuhara, Colby Minifie, Cameron Crovetti, Erin Moriarty, Jack Quaid, Jenson Ackles, Paul Reiser, and Karl Urban. Joining the cast for the first time are Mason Dye from “Stranger Things” and Daveed Diggs, who’s known for his role in “Snowpiercer”.
