The Boys Star Is Glad the Series Is Ending (and He’s Absolutely Right)

Actor Antony Starr expresses no regret as The Boys, the acclaimed Amazon Prime Video series he stars in as the menacing Homelander character, approaches its final chapter. The show, known for its gripping portrayal of superheroes with a dark twist, has left audiences on edge. With Season 5 currently in production since November, fans are eager to see how showrunner Eric Kripke will conclude this popular series. However, Antony Starr seems content that The Boys is set to end on a strong note.

As a passionate movie critic, I had the privilege to converse with Antony Starr about the upcoming final season of “The Boys.” When queried about his sentiments after perusing the concluding scripts, Starr shared an intriguing perspective. He admitted, “It’s odd because, despite my deep affection for this series, I dislike it when good things overstay their welcome.” Thus, he expressed a sense of relief that we are bringing the story to a close in Season 5.

Later on, Starr explained that viewers might not be prepared for the unexpected twists in the last season of ‘The Boys’. “As usual with this show, I never anticipate what’s coming next,” he shared. “Each time I think I have a clue about what will happen, something else transpires. This was true for the final scripts I’ve read so far. I’ve gone through six episodes, haven’t seen the second last and finale yet. I know how it ends, and I believe fans will either be taken aback or stunned, based on their sensitivity. However, they will definitely be thoroughly entertained.

It speaks volumes about “The Boys” that it’s permitted to conclude its storyline, given how frequently and swiftly shows are terminated by streaming platforms. However, when a show is extremely successful, there’s also the tendency to keep exploiting it for maximum profit. Fortunately, Amazon Prime Video is letting “The Boys” finish its journey, but the universe will live on through various spinoffs. A second season of “Gen V” is imminent, and “The Boys: Mexico” is rumored to be in development with Diego Luna (from “Andor”) and Gael Garcia Bernal (from “Marvel’s Werewolf by Night”) serving as producers. Additionally, an animated series titled “The Boys Presents: Diabolical” is also in the works.

Eric Kripke initiated production by posting the first script page for the premiere episode across social media platforms. The script unveils that the fifth season of ‘The Boys’ will open with the “Fifteen Inches of Sheer Dynamite.” Paul Grellong and Phil Sgriccia are responsible for penning and directing, respectively, the first episode.

The fifth season of “The Boys” is growing its cast with the recent arrivals of Misha Collins and Jared Padalecki. They will join their former “Supernatural” colleague, Jensen Ackles, who portrays Soldier Boy. In an interview with Business Insider in March, Padalecki said, “I don’t know a lot about it, which is quite scary.” He went on to explain, “I don’t know what we’re doing or if our characters interact. I don’t have much information. They are still working on the script and deciding who will be involved. But it should be finalized by the end of this month.
