IO Interactive’s Hitman series, encompassed by Hitman 3 on PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4, has recently achieved a noteworthy feat, boasting a total player count of 75 million.
The developer made the announcement on its social channels today:
The post states, “Reaching this milestone independently is momentous,” it continues. “IOI is stronger than before, fueled by determination and bolstered by our amazing community.
The “Hitman: World of Assassination” series started with its initial contemporary title launched in 2016, distributed as episodes.
Instead of releasing Hitman 2 in an episodic format, the studio opted to launch it as one complete package in 2018. The content from the first game could be added to Hitman 2 as a bonus for those who previously owned it; this marked IO Interactive’s aim to create a unified and comprehensive gaming experience.
After the initial two games were launched, the game’s developer parted ways with publisher Square Enix, gaining full independence while keeping ownership of the Hitman intellectual property.
2021 saw the launch of Hitman 3, allowing players to continue their journey from earlier versions. Subsequently, the game morphed into the World of Assassination, encompassing all three contemporary campaigns and every extra content.
It’s been an incredibly captivating ride so far, but the show has temporarily paused for a breather. However, it continues to evolve, and you can expect a PSVR2 version in March. Following the triumph of their trilogy, IO is planning to create Project 007, which seems like a perfect fit.
