The Conjuring: Last Rites Finds First New Cast Members for Final Film

As a seasoned gamer of all things supernatural and horror-filled, I must say that the announcement of The Conjuring: Last Rites has sent chills down my spine! Growing up with the first two films directed by the mastermind James Wan, I’ve been on a rollercoaster ride through Ed and Lorraine Warren’s terrifying tales.

The Conjuring series, known for its main films starring Ed and Lorraine Warren, is preparing for a concluding chapter in its primary movie collection. Alongside several spin-offs, the series has been supported by three Conjuring movies featuring Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson, with James Wan as the director of the first two. Warner Bros. aims to bring closure to the real-life paranormal tale with a final Conjuring film set for release next year. Recently, a couple of actors have been added to join Farmiga and Wilson in the upcoming production.

As reported by Deadline, the cast for “The Conjuring: Last Rites” has expanded with additions of Ben Hardy, known for films like “X-Men: Apocalypse” and “Love at First Sight,” and Mia Tomlinson from “The Beast Must Die.” The specific roles they will play in the film have yet to be disclosed. The entire plot of “The Conjuring: Last Rites” has been tightly guarded, but it is expected to draw inspiration from one of Ed and Lorraine Warren’s actual cases.

James Wan initially launched the series, but hasn’t directed a Conjuring film since the second installment. He is set to produce The Last Rites together with Peter Safran, and will also be acknowledged as one of the creators behind the movie’s plot. David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick collaborated with Wan in developing the story, while Ian Goldberg and Richard Naing penned the most recent draft of the screenplay. Originally, Johnson-McGoldrick was responsible for writing the script for this film.

Michael Chaves steps back into the director’s chair for “The Conjuring: The Last Rites,” marking his fourth time leading a movie within the “Conjuring” universe. Following his debut as the principal director of “The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It,” Chaves has also directed “The Curse of La Llorona” and “The Nun II.

Warner Bros. has officially announced that “The Conjuring: Last Rites” will mark the conclusion of the main “Conjuring” movie series. However, there’s no news yet about whether the franchise will carry on with its spinoffs. So far, there have been two “Nun” films and three “Annabelle” movies, both of which have been profitable for the franchise. Given the success of these spinoff series, it would be unusual if we didn’t see more installments in either one, even though the main “Conjuring” series is wrapping up.

So far, the Conjuring Universe has earned over 2.25 billion dollars worldwide, solidifying its position as an undisputed powerhouse in the horror genre.

The Conjuring: Last Rites is set to hit theaters on September 5, 2025.
