It’s crucial to explore the variety in manga authors, as they often demonstrate versatility in their works. For instance, Takehiko Inoue, who created “Slam Dunk,” also penned “Vagabond.” Similarly, Tatsuki Fujimoto has moved between “Chainsaw Man” and poignant one-shots like “Look Back.” Recently, Uoto’s extensive range is being showcased in anime adaptation, with their sports series, Hyakuemu, being turned into a new film. Given Uoto’s previous work on “Orb: On the Movements of the Earth,” we can expect an exciting journey following its release.
2024’s lesser-known yet captivating anime, “Orb: On the Movements of the Earth,” has gone unnoticed amidst the popular titles like “Dandadan,” “Delicious in Dungeon,” and “Blue Box.” This historical anime, set in 15th-century Poland, subtly explores the revolutionary concept of heliocentrism – the idea that the Earth revolves around the sun – a notion that was persecuted during its time. The series is exceptional and should not be missed. However, Uoto’s upcoming anime adaptation promises a stark contrast.
Hyakuemu Anime Movie Releases Its First Trailer
As you ponder the links between strict Catholicism in 15th-century Europe and high school track athletes in contemporary Japan, don’t forget to catch a glimpse of the fresh trailer for the anime “Hyakuemu,” the latest adaptation by Uoto Studios. The upcoming movie was initially announced last May, with Rock ‘n’ Roll Mountain studio taking charge of animation under the guidance of director Kenji Iwaisawa. Keisuke Kojima is responsible for the character designs, and Hiroaki Tsutsumi contributes to the film’s music. Additionally, the voice actors have been unveiled. Tori Matsuzaka (from “The Blood of Wolves”) will lend her voice to Togashi, while Shota Sometani (“Parasyte: Part 1”) voices Komiya.
Even though Rock ‘n’ Roll Mountain is still a fresh studio, they’ve pulled out all the stops with Hyakuemu, and the trailer is visually breathtaking. The series combines hand-drawn animation with rotoscoping (a technique involving tracing from real-life images) to create a striking visual experience. The upcoming movie’s first poster is just as captivating. This poster features the main characters, Togashi and Komiya, in their athletic attire, embodying a classic rivalry stance. Have a look at it below…
Hyakuemu Is an Intense Sports Anime
In terms of genre and subject matter, Hyakuemu stands in stark contrast to Orb: On the Movements of the Earth. However, Uoto possesses an extraordinary talent for transforming seemingly ordinary concepts into deeply moving narratives. Orb delves into the profound exploration of truth and its significance, a topic that resonates particularly with our current times. In contrast, Hyakuemu, meaning “100 meters,” explores the complex dynamics of childhood friendship and rivalry within the simple context of athletics.
Togashi was born with an innate talent for running. As a child, he breezed through every 100-meter race without breaking a sweat. However, in the sixth grade, he encounters Komiya, a new student bursting with determination but lacking proper technique. Togashi helps him by instilling a fierce resolve: to triumph no matter the cost. The years roll by, and they reconnect as rivals on the track, revealing their deepest selves.
Hyakuemu opens in Japanese theaters on September 19th.
