As a devoted fan with a deep-rooted fascination for royalty and the intricate tapestry of The Crown, I find myself eagerly awaiting any morsel of news regarding a potential prequel. Having binge-watched every season multiple times, I can’t help but feel a sense of nostalgia for the grandeur and the drama that unfolded within the hallowed halls of Buckingham Palace.
Approximately a year has passed since “The Crown” concluded after six seasons on Netflix, and casting director Robert Sterne still receives inquiries about roles to portray members of the royal family. In an interview with Variety, Sterne mentions that he keeps receiving letters from actors who are interested in playing Meghan Markle. The final episodes of “The Crown” were made available on Netflix on December 14, 2023.
In a simpler rephrase, here’s an option: Sterne remarked, “People continue to write asking, ‘Can I become Meghan Markle?’ However, I often respond, ‘The opportunity has passed.'”
In the last and concluding season of The Crown, events from 1997 to 2005 involving the British Royal family were portrayed. The initial four episodes concentrated on the tragic demise of Princess Diana, while the remaining six episodes delved into Queen Elizabeth II’s Golden Jubilee, the passings of Princess Margaret and Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother, the budding relationship between Prince William and Kate Middleton, their wedding, and the union of Prince Charles and Camilla Parker Bowles. Notably, this season did not depict Markle’s relationship with Prince Harry in a chronological manner. Season 6 features an ensemble cast including Imelda Staunton, Jonathan Pryce, Lesley Manville, Dominic West, Olivia Williams, Bertie Carvel, Claudia Harrison, Marcia Warren, Salim Daw, Khalid Abdalla, Elizabeth Debicki, Ed McVey, Luther Ford, and Meg Bellamy.
Could There Be a The Crown Prequel?
Although “The Crown” has concluded its run, its creator has hinted at potential interest in expanding the universe of “The Crown” with a prequel series. However, he mentioned back then that such an endeavor wouldn’t be immediate.
Last autumn, Morgan shared, “I’ve got an idea, but there are a few steps I need to take first. Additionally, a very specific set of conditions would have to align… If given the opportunity to return to The Crown, it would be for a trip back in time.”
Morgan shared during a separate conversation that they won’t be creating any stories set in palaces for now. They anticipate feeling a void, but as of now, they have no immediate plans to write about palaces again. However, one can never say never, but for the short term, definitely not.
All six seasons of The Crown are now streaming on Netflix.
