As a seasoned gamer of historical dramas and a dedicated fan of The Crown, I must admit that the prospect of more seasons or spinoffs leaves me both excited and skeptical. While the series ended on a poignant note with the wedding of Prince Charles and Camilla Parker Bowles, there’s no denying that the Royal Family’s story is as endless as the River Thames itself.
Nearly a year has passed since Netflix concluded the six-season journey of “The Crown,” and its producer, Andy Harries, hints there may still be more to come from this captivating series about the British Royal Family. During an interview on BBC’s “The Media Show” (as reported by Deadline), Harries suggested that spinoffs could be in the making for “The Crown,” as he believes it offers an abundant and fascinating subject matter for further investigation through future seasons.
In an interview, Harries – both executive producer of The Crown and founder of Left Bank Pictures which produced it – shared that they considered themselves fortunate for having struck a deal with Netflix early on in its existence. This agreement allowed them to keep control over the show’s rights, opening up numerous possibilities for them.
Harries expressed that the deal they’ve made feels exceptionally satisfying and offers them a chance to consider future possibilities for The Crown. He noted that the topic is vast, allowing for either revisiting past seasons or moving forward. After six seasons covering six decades, there’s still much potential left unexplored, which he believes they may revisit at some point in the future.
As a devoted admirer, I’d like to share my take on “The Crown.” This captivating series delves into the vast majority of Queen Elizabeth II’s reign, beginning in Season 1, right before the nuptials of Princess Elizabeth and Philip Mountbatten in 1947. The journey concludes in Season 6, marking the wedding of Prince Charles and Camilla Parker Bowles. However, let me emphasize that Season 6, spanning from 1997 to 2005, holds a special place. The first four episodes of this season are particularly poignant, as they explore the tragic demise of Diana, Princess of Wales.
Regarding what may come after The Crown, there have been discussions about carrying on the storyline. The show’s creator, Peter Morgan, has hinted at the possibility of further installments, possibly as a prequel, but it’s not something we can expect immediately.
Last autumn, I shared an intriguing thought: “I’ve been mulling over an idea, but there are some tasks on my plate first. Moreover, a very specific set of events would have to align… If I were to dive back into The Crown, it’d be all about stepping back through time.”
The Crown Star Says The Series Ended In The Right Place
Although there might be additional instalments of the Royal Family’s narrative, actress Elizabeth Debicki, famously known for her role in The Crown, feels the series concluded appropriately. In a recent conversation, Debicki expressed that the decision to end the series where it did was respectful towards its own natural progression.
She commented, “It seemed to conclude at the appropriate point,” implying that it was allowed to run its course naturally.
As a dedicated gamer, I can relate. Each game has its own path, and this one seemed to know where it was headed. Peter Morgan’s writing felt like the game understood its final destination. It was intricately delicate, truly impressive how he wrapped up such a vast narrative. I’m not fond of using ‘journey,’ but it was a significant odyssey for viewers. When you invest six seasons into a show, it needs a satisfying ending.
All six seasons of The Crown are now streaming on Netflix.
