The Crown Star Elizabeth Debicki Says Netflix Series “Ended in the Right Place”

As a dedicated fan who has binge-watched every single season of The Crown, I wholeheartedly agree with Elizabeth Debicki‘s sentiment that the series ended at the right time. Just like a fine wine, it matured gracefully over six seasons, each one revealing another layer of complexity in the lives of the British Royal Family.

Netflix’s show, The Crown, wrapped up after six seasons in December, concluding its portrayal of the British Royal Family’s storyline in 2005. Some fans may have wished for more episodes covering recent events or even spin-offs delving deeper, but Elizabeth Debicki, who portrayed Princess Diana, believes the series found a fitting conclusion. She expressed to People (through The Hollywood Reporter) that ending when it did allowed The Crown to honor its own natural progression.

She remarked, “It seems to have concluded appropriately,” implying that it found its natural end.

She added, “It seemed to have a clear direction throughout, and I believe that the writing by Peter [Morgan] also conveyed a sense of its own conclusion. It’s quite subtle, I think. He did an exceptional job concluding such a vast narrative. I’m not particularly fond of using the term ‘journey,’ but it was a significant experience for viewers. When you decide to watch six seasons of a series, it should be brought to a satisfying end.”

The last and concluding season of the series The Crown, spanning the years from 1997 to 2005, focuses on the British Royal family. The initial four episodes delve into the tragic passing of Princess Diana, while the remaining six explore the Golden Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II, as well as significant events such as the demise of Princess Margaret, Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother, the blossoming romance between Prince William and Kate Middleton, their wedding, and the relationship between Prince Charles and Camilla Parker Bowles. Joining Emma Corrin in this final season are stars like Imelda Staunton, Jonathan Pryce, Lesley Manville, Dominic West, Olivia Williams, Bertie Carvel, Claudia Harrison, Marcia Warren, Salim Daw, Khalid Abdalla, Ed McVey, Luther Ford, and Meg Bellamy.

Will There Be a Prequel to The Crown?

Although The Crown has come to an end, its creator, Peter Morgan, has shown interest in expanding the universe of The Crown at some point in the future. This could possibly take the shape of a prequel, but such a project wouldn’t be started immediately.

Morgan shared an idea last autumn, but mentioned there are a few prerequisites. First, he has some other tasks to complete. Second, a specific set of conditions must align… If given the opportunity to rejoin The Crown, he’d preferably travel back in time.

Morgan shared that they won’t be writing stories set in palaces for now, and they expect to miss it eventually. However, as of now, they have no plans to return to this theme. While they may reconsider in the future, at present, there is definitely no intention to do so.

All six seasons of The Crown are now streaming on Netflix.
