Paul Atkins, the President’s pick for SEC chair, has promised to create a ‘rational’ and ‘coherent’ crypto regulatory framework. Because, you know, we’ve been doing just fine without it so far. 😂

In his statement during the U.S. Senate Banking Committee hearing, he said:

“A top priority of my chairmanship will be to work with my fellow Commissioners and Congress to provide a firm regulatory foundation for digital assets through a rational, coherent, and principled approach.”

Crypto Regulation Shift: The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly

Atkins has been around the block a few times, with over three decades of experience at the agency. He’s seen it all, and now he’s promising to bring some much-needed order to the crypto space. Fingers crossed! 🤞

Top analysts are hailing his crypto stance as a major shift, and for good reason. In fact, Nate Geraci of ETF Store claims that the nominee placing ‘top priority’ on crypto is a resounding shift. 📈

But not everyone is convinced. Senator Tim Scott, chairman of the Senate Banking Committee, thinks Atkins will return the agency to its core mission: ensuring our capital markets remain the envy of the world. Or, you know, at least not a complete disaster. 🤷‍♂️

However, the hearing wasn’t without its drama. Senator Elizabeth Warren had some choice words for the nominee:

“Mr Atkins got everything wrong in the run-up to the greatest financial crash since the great depression. That’s not a record that deserves a promotion.”  

Atkins dismissed the allegations, but we’re not so sure. After all, as the saying goes: “you can’t teach an old dog new tricks.” 🐕

Now, all that’s left is for the committee to vote on the nominees and forward them for potential greenlight by the rest of the Senate members. Wish him luck! 🤞
